  1. Welcome mate .. so which do you now prefer?
  2. You don't need a Jap specialist, you just need a normal half decent mechy. Every car has a crank pulley, this one is nothing special. Your best option is to take the car back and get them to look at it. The vibration is a problem and all we know is you have seen the pulley wobble..... So, get someone hands on and see what they say. The "harmonic balancer" & "crank pulley" are the same thing. It is a crank pulley designed to balance the crank... A rose by any other name. Juat at for your info, this is the one I bought http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=121600942927&globalID=EBAY-GB TDS-2JZ CRANKSHAFT PULLEY ENGINE 1JZGE/2JZGE/2JZGTE LEXUS GS300 JZS147 1993-1997 works perfectly and just for completeness I bought a new crank bolt from Toyota Chelmsford, only a few quid. All my works gets done a SETyres, local kwikfit style garage, nobody special.
  3. Pulleys should never wobble... I think you've found your problem. Get it back to the garage SLOWLY! ive just replaced my crank pulley, you should also replace the bolt & washer at the same time (cheap direct from toyota) as most get knackered when being removed, mine certainly did. This is is the last place in the world you want a screwed up or cross threaded bolt and it the crank pulley (balancer) is wobbling it'll shake the whole engine as its rev increases. Maybe worth a second opinion if your mechanic let it go out the door like that!
  4. park the car, run the engine and look at the pulley and aux belt. you can rev the engine with the throttle body and see if you can spot any wobble with the pulley. certainly worth an eyeball before you spend money at a garage with no info for them.
  5. second turbo wouldn't come on it the vsv's were duff?... turbo transition is really good and i cleared all the lines when going back to stock
  6. i've run it in linearTT and pushed 1.2-4 happily. back to stock vsv setup and 0.8 regardless of cats... weird.
  7. as heading, still only 0.8 bar?... haven't hit a fuelcut yet so feel no need to add the FCD. might bleed some boost off or remove the ring and see what happens. good, bad, opinions please?
  8. I meant the IACV hoses. much like everything old, these get very brittle and can leak. I ripped them all off and replaced with new hoses and found my turbo spool up problem stopped. Just be very careful with the VSV. Where the hoses join it can also be brittle and they are easy to break.
  9. hose leak? just had this on mine where the top mount at the back of the cam cover has split. cleaned it out and is ok with new hoses.
  10. summer is here .. how's your supra? mine is in the workshop having a few minor bits done but should be back this week.
  11. Did they not visually inspect the exhaust? the new rules from Feb '15 mean decats = instant fail... (mine did, search forum for the discussion we had at the time. Some more experienced MOT peeps on here have first hand knowledge of the new rules) well done for getting yours through ok.
  12. I had the same thing and it turned out to be the AC compressor. The noise got drowned out by the engine and road noise so yours may not have stopped fully...
  13. No you won't, it's an instant failure. The rules changed last year to include a visual inspection as well as the emissions test. If you have removed the cat(s) = fail. Mine failed for this reason so I had to buy an old cat... Search for MOT rules, I posted a link sometime back to the official bumf' - - - Updated - - - Looks like we'll all follow you to your garage then
  14. Cheers Gaz, I've got screwfix on my door so I'll pop in there
  15. Where can you get a new set? Mine are more rust than thread [sHOCK][/sHOCK]
  16. Don't worry about overpriced branded units, go here. http://www.universal-rotating.co.uk/Public/Default.aspx Remember to send them your old one to get £50 deposit back. I replaced my siezed one 7 months ago no problems at all.
  17. So so true. You only have to look at YouTube for the scams and silliness. What was said at the scene of the accident is completely irelivant. What you put on paper or say over the phone as a statement of evens to your insurer is ALL AND ONLY what is taken into account. Put simply unless she tells HER insurance that she backed into you then they will find in her favour. If she doesn't the. You need evidence by way of CCTV, dash cam or a witness. Without any of these then it'll go against you and no amount of protesting will make a difference. Sry to be the barer of bad news, I speak from experience. My situation was that a car in front of me had stopped blocking a T junction, being friendly the guy in front reversed back to let a car out as we were sitting at lights, he didn't look behind him and hit me. Decent bloke exchanging details and all his fault etc. on paper, he said that he stopped and I didn't. Put yourself in the seat of the person at your insurance company, having heard all strange excuses in the world ... Yours won't be the first nor the last but, yet again, with out evidence you'll lose this one buddy.
  18. So what is the opinion in 5w-50 halfords Motorsport oil.... http://answers.halfords.com/answers/4028/product/282673/questions.htm I've run this for a couple of years with no issues but would be interested in a experts eye
  19. slooowly going BPU on the barn find and i've been handed a new FCD [sHOCK][/sHOCK] If I get a dry day I'd want to fit it but will it do any harm with the cats still in? or fit and leave it set to 12 instead of 9...?
  20. I've just replaced my rad and this was a pain to get off, pinch the tab and tease it gentle off as you don't want to crack it. Old plugs are quite brittle. In the end I used a thin flat blade screwdriver to lift the tab which 'clicks' and it came off. Worst case, it's only two wires so you would replace both sides with a different mating plug.
  21. Don't joke, you know that actually might work!
  22. Gaz, I'll bring a few beers anyway I've got to have the front Cali' fixed and I'll fit the new condenser then We can have a chat about the cars next step
