  1. Ok then Even I'm not stupid enough to argue with someone who designs engines for a living But I will ask the question; On a turbo engine, at WOT, where do you get the vacuum from? Obviously not the inlet manifold, as that's above atmospheric pressure. Just interested
  2. TBH, as long as you're cool with the environmental issues, venting the crankcase to atmosphere is the way to go PCV systems were only ever installed for emissions reasons. IMHO a catch can with a decent filter after it will do the job admirably. In a performance engine, you really don't want to introduce oil fumes into the inlet manifold for a myriad of reasons not the least of which being detonation. So as long as you're not a tree hugger, just vent those fumes
  3. 'kin 'ell Jake, you just go from one problem to another. Fcuk knows what you must have done in another life to deserve this lot OK, the turbo has only got 2 planes of movement, axial (in and out) and radial (up and down) My understanding is that a certain amount of play is permissible in either plane, but less in the axial than the radial You'll really need to get the specs from the turbo manufacturer and measure the movement with a dial test indicator to be sure. To give you an idea, here's a link to doing an inspection on a set of standard twins. the process is similar with a single http://www.mkiv.com/manual/manualtt/turbo_inspection/ti1.jpg PCV system stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation and is basically a pipe from the inlet manifold to the crankcase to extract fumes and burn them in the engine rather than venting them to atmosphere. If the PCV valve becomes blocked you can build up excess crankcase pressure which can cause oil to blow past seals. Here's the link for that one, although it may have been altered slightly on your car depending on what inlet manifold you're running. http://www.mkiv.com/manual/manualtt/emisson_control_system/index.html HTH
  4. If you paste your hijackthis! log here, it will analyse it for you http://www.hijackthis.de/
  5. Blimey, he must have been a psycho to want to nick it Sorry, but IMHO, a great car ruined
  6. Paul's a decent guy. I'm sure he'll do all he can to help you. I really don't envy him taking on a job like this, after it seems the world and his wife have discussed it, and are waiting with baited breath for the results. It may be an idea just to cut him a bit of slack, and let him get on with the job now, rather than posting daily bulletins. Just IMHO, of course
  7. Any other day, and the answer would have been yesterday, but the sun was shining, so I went out in the Griff Mines a daily driver (normally) so I'm out in it today
  8. Yeah, right, so you put a restriction in the air intake and it helps you save fuel
  9. Yeah, bestiality is sick, sick, sick
  10. TBH fuel costs are the least of your worries. When it was new, in the UK, a Supra was a £40k car with £40k car running costs. The purchase price has dropped like a stone, but the spare parts remain at their previous levels I'm not trying to be flash here, but if you've really got to ask, you probably can't afford to run one. Sure you'll probably afford the 18 or so mpg, but when parts need replacing you'll really know what running a performance car is all about If you're actually doing a high mileage, then unless you're in a very well paid job, a Supra probably isn't the best choice for a daily driver. Just a quick calculation on your figures, (using 18 mpg and fuel at £0.95 /litre) shows that out of your 40p per mile allowance, virtually 24p of that will go on petrol. By the time you've taken Insurance, Tax, MoT and servicing costs into account, you're going to be subsidising your company for every mile that you drive
  11. You probably are, but its not worth winding them up unnecessarily. Just do as most are saying, drive away and don't thrash it until its warm and let it do most of its cooling on a gentle ride home. TBH screaming up your own road with the 2nd turbo online, and then letting it cool down for 5 minutes reverberating in the garage, isn't the best way to keep on friendly terms with the neighbours. I know they're miserable bastards, but believe me, its better to have them on your side, than against you
  12. Thats fine Col, just send me a text, I'll try and keep both days free
  13. Wednesday or Thursday would be OK for me, You choose
  14. TBH Col, the amount of difference you'd notice upgrading that motherboard to the fastest CPU it could run, is negligible. Its a bit like taking a Mk3 N/A Supra, and by sticking in the most powerful engine available at the time, trying to make it run like Mkiv TT
  15. Hang on guys, before we start getting too techincal, wouldn't it be a good idea to see what programs are in the startup folder Col, go to Start/all Programs/Startup and see what you've go in there to start with.. Right click and delete any you don't want to run on startup. If that doesn't cure it then I suppose you can get involved in msconfig, but as hiten55 says, make sure you know what you're turning off before you do it. As an aside, did you get my text?
  16. I'd buy it, if I hadn't got the identical thing sitting in my garage Well constructed advert, makes a refreshing change from a couple of blurred mobile phone pics. Good luck with the sale. Looks like somebody is going to get themselves a nice car
  17. Thank God for the voice of reason Next you'll all be saying that you never race on the highway either I've been there, done some pretty stupid things in my time. I try to keep things a bit saner these days, but purely only because there's so much more chance of getting caught Come on guys (and girls) we all own performance cars, and I'm sure we didn't buy them so we could drive Miss Daisy. Cut the guy a bit of slack. There but for the grace of God, go I
  18. You also haven't got the inherent slipping in the transmission with a manual. Until the TC locks up some of the power (so read more fuel used) is going to be lost in just taking up the drive
  19. I may be getting the wrong end of the stick here, but please tell me you're not seriously suggesting that people now have to have qualifications for cleaning!
