Alot of them die when they experience the UK's cold weather. Both of mine went within month's of arrival in the UK.
-
Fine. So why only have them on some cars? And please don't say beacuse they were enforcing speed limits more stringently in America at the time. Still nobody can tell me why 'OEM's' only put this crucial thermal stress reducing device on 10% of the cars it manufactured?

What are 'adjustable pulleys?' and do I want them?

What sort of mileage do you consider 'consumable' Chris? Are we taking 10- 20,000 miles? Who's Frank? -
So never then. With a car this powerful and fast, where, except the salt planes of America, or an INDY circuit would you be able to sustain full throttle for prolonged periods of time? Did they fit them to the UK cars because they thought the UK roads lend themselves to this type of driving? I also take it you mean full throttle in top gear, achieving speeds in excess of 112 miles an hour that the J-Specs are restricted to? Until someone can post something up proving this theory, and prove me wrong.........

Yes, but I can't say I noticed any difference. You effectively decrease the inertia required to rotate the pulley's. In the same way as lightening the flywheel increases throttle response. That is definetly noticable. -

They are (generally) lighter. And the the teeth are the same. They won't make your car go faster. -
For your information I don't have a life and this is the most important thing in it right now Okay, the scoop does something. But not much, as it's only fitted the to UK cars and to my knowledge, the cars that don't have them fitted don't have any problems. So, it just creates more drag at high speeds and fucks the cars aerodynamics And I hope you didn't just go and take that photograph to make that point, that would be sad

Depends which ones you buy -
I'll take your word for it But you must see my point that if it's that detremental why wasn't it on all cars? Maybe it was just due to extra stresses the UK engine has due the increased weight over the J-Spec. More engine load, more heat and more cooling required
-
Thats great, but it can't be that important that they didn't put in all of the cars. And that none of J-Specs that don't have this cooling system and have had no problems. I don't deny it gets more air to the engine bay. I do question that its specifically designed to cool certain cylinders (and not put on all cars as a result) and that it really does much the actual cooling of the engine components.
-
I'm sure in some menial way it helps a little. But how many cracked engine blocks have you heard of for Jap Spec cars? Cars that have been imported and covered similar miles to UK's and haven't had the benfit of this specially designed cooling aid for the really fast UK cars?
-
The UK had the headlight washers for cleaning the headlights - ingenious idea :thumbdown Maybe they had a bonnet scoop to clean the engine with the frickin rain we get over here Or maybe it was to increase the CoD of the car to slow it down to UK speed limits :thumbdown The whole speed limit thing is total bollocks. The only thing the scoop would do is decrease the ambient air temperature to the engine. 95% of the engine cooiling is done via the coolers, that are fed air through the bumper. These cooling devices will be least efficient when travelling at slow speeds as they receive less air. I don't actually know the figures but would bet that the standard radiator isn't too far from its full effieciency at 80mph or so.

Yeah but it's just not the same in a Mondeo Neil

They 'may' record the calls they don't do it as a matter of fact. I sure they could conviently lose it if they wanted to though. Besides, how long do you think they keep record of these calls? I bet it isn't very long either. Jake - Waht does it say on your pilocy and certificate of cover? I'm sure mine has the year of manufacture and model on there
-
Jake, I have actually taken a deposit on this car now, but the guy is dragging his heels picking it up. He's due to get here on Tuesday of next week. It's only an NA with a RSR and Volks but it looks like a any other Supra to a bunch of 16 year old girls right? Anyway, if you want to, you can borrow it and take her yourself. I don't mind. Just let me know and its a done deal Oh, the car is down in Poole by the way. Bit of trek but its up to you.
-
So you spent £8,750 in petrol annually? Or are you telling porkies? Or are you loaded? You always looked a bit of a gypo Are you and Genna married yet by the way?
-
I spend that doing 12K a year.
-
You will spend almosdt the value of the car for a years worth of petrol doing that mileage. Not being funny but if you can only afford 8K for a car, 7K in petrol seems a bit of a hit. Unless of course your company pay, then it's a slightly different story.

I thought the 220 was a K series but the 216 and 220 turbos were Honda. Either way they were all K series after a certain date (96?)
-
That's cos it's a Honda engine I had one too, absolutely everything broke on the car that could possibly break, except the engine and turbo's. Turbo's are a mechanical part of the car like any other, and like any other part, if maintained properly don't have any more reason to fail provided there also kept standard. Even more so if they are stronger steel bladed versions supplied with the UK cars (as much as it pains me to admit it )
-
Yes, I remember lighting the back wheels up, traction control kicking in (snow mode) and me thinking 'I've had my car about 3 minutes and its fucking broken!!!!!' Enjoy!
-
Dude, thought I would offer my sincerest condolences. Cars are shit when they break Still, how much are those Carillo rods, big bore kit and fcuking huge single turbo? At least like any dedicated Supra owner you can use your spare!
-
I think you'll find that the canyon between the torque figures of a TT to NA is where the performnce difference actually lies. I have owned both and think they are both exceelent cars for different reasons. N/A's are okay if at the right revs in the right gear, otherwise new Vectra diesels will keep up on acceleration until the NA gets on song. And please don't give me 'it's faster than most things on the road' when actually it isn't. Most crappy hot hatches have the same power (or very close) to an NA Supra. It cracks me up all these poeple saying I didn't buy a NA for its power, I could have bought a TT if I wanted to blah, blah, blah, and then turn round and say 'its faster than most things on the road' and 'its not much slower than a TT'
-
No, it doesn't. I can't really say I understand where your coming from with that comment though.
-
Firstly - Hello! Secondly - Forgive me for not reading all 200000000000000 posts in this thread. Thirdly - I you wnat a fast car get the MR2 Turbo, its more fun than a NA Supra. They are however, less reliable and not so pleasing on the eye as the Supe. Fourthly - MPG in an NA isn't much better, probably 3-4MPG but nobody ever takes into consideration the cost of the petrol per litre. Boggo unleaded is much cheaper than Optimax or Ultimate and over a few miles each week adds up to a fair saving. Fifthly (?) - Darkrider - I would agree with Jake. He did say MOST NA owners, not all. You obviously don't fall into that bracket. If you want cheap power, the TT is the only way to go. Or a motorbike
