DDR3 isnt that expensive, I'd get 2 sticks of 1GB DDR3 ram, leaving another 2 slots to upgrade to 4GB later if you feel you need it.... also I wouldnt bother with i7, get an intel quad instead around 2.8GHz..

Just a quick question, I thought it was possible to assign more than one ip address to a single network interface in windows. Or was I wrong? Basically I want the following ip addresses to be used by the localhost, and I want to do this without using 4 network adapters. 127.0.0.1 localhost 192.168.2.21 localhost 192.168.2.22 localhost 192.168.2.23 localhost 192.168.2.24 localhost Cheers James

Daston, open up the case, and disconnect the power going to the HDD, if it consistantly reports "Operating system not detected" you can be sure whether its the hdd or not.

Doubt it its the mobo... If it actually gets to the windows loading screen, more than likely to be the HDD... mobo's rarely blow unless you've been messing around with it. get yourself a bootable linux iso and slap it onto a usb pen or cd.... if that boots up then you can be pretty sure your motherboard is ok, you could even use the windows install cd.

I'd wait until november when dell release their new top end studio range, replacing the XPS, im sure the inspirons will be updated too with the new motivano chipset (centrino 2). I am planing to buy a laptop too, but 2 key things are important.. must use ddr3 and ATI graphics chipset,, nvidia have screwed up big time this year.
