    VVTi

Chris kept up with me on A329 near Bracknell a couple of months ago. (I'm sure he remembers:)) Mine has hybrids and a few other mods and I've seen off a couple of non VVTI cars before. Leads me to believe that they do have that little bit extra.
  2. What differences are you likely to see in readings from a gauge fitted pre turbo as opposed to post turbo? Seem to remember someone saying that it could as much as 200 degrees!! Mine is fitted post turbo and I have a peak figure of something like 870 so am I to take that as 1070?
  3. AFAIK those FCD's all come with the same default setting which I think allows you to go up to about 1.3 bar. You can alter it but I'm fairly sure they are all shipped out with the same default setting. I have set of used plugs you can try if you want.
  4. Neil Do you know when the plugs where last changed? A boost controller might help but I don't know enough about how they work to say for sure.

    Petrol cap

Lost my screw on one and have one of those universal temporary things in at the moment. Is this just a standard Toyota part or one that is bespoke to the Supe?
  6. Just read you original post again and this does sound very similiar to what I was experiencing. Toyota actually diagnosed this for me and did a sort of bodge repair by wedging in a piece of rubber:eek: Still haven't got round to sorting it properly.
  7. Far Do you have any hard pipes that are close to the body work? I'm thinking mainly on the drivers side and particularly if you have one that goes through the inner wing(is it called that?) I had a noise similiar to what you describe and it turned out to be this pipe hitting the inner wing. Couldn't hear the noise at higher speed/revs.
  8. Just found out I won't be able to make this after all:( Hopefully catch you all at the next one.
  9. I'm actually much worse than a girl when it comes to spanners! I also cry if I get my hands dirty or cut myself:) Nevertheless I'm tempted to have a go. Can't find the instructions on mkiv.com though, can anyone post a link?
  10. Search button reveals that a few on here have carried out this task themselves. I doubt I would be up to it though so the question is can I entrust this to a local mechanic or do I wait until Leon is less busy (not really an option given squealing noises coming from brakes:eek: ) My other option is the Toyota dealer although they can't fit me in until the 29th. I'm also guessing this would be the most expensive route. What would people on here do in this instance?
  11. I should be able to make this. Not fussy about date or venue really.
  12. You shouldn't need a restrictor ring on a UK car as they don't suffer from 'boost creep' in the way j-spec models do. Definitely worth doing as you will be more than pleased with the results. No massive increase in noise unless you remove the baffle from the Nur Spec..........as I have done:D
  13. I have had this happen a couple of times recently and once quite a while back. After a fairly prolonged high speed run I get white smoke coming from the back of the car. (unsure as to whether or not it's coming out of the exhaust tailpipe or just from underneath the car) It only occurs once I have eased off the throttle and thankfully isn't accompanied by any disturbing noises! Definitely doesn't occur every time I give the car some stick but pretty embarrassing when it does. Any ideas?
  14. I was out in the car fairly early this morning and it felt as it normally does with a big hit when the 2nd turbo joins in:D Went for another spin early afternoon and what a difference! Felt much less responsive compared to earlier. A small price to pay for the glorious weather I guess.
  15. I think it depends a lot on your budget. Chris Wilson does a Koni setup which I believe is very good but will set you back a few quid. My car has the Eibach springs that make it sit lower which looks great but I can't say I've noticed any overall improvement in handling. Remember if you do lower the car be prepared to scrape speed bumps on a regular basis!
  16. And how I wish I'd stuck to that:) Had the day off and just made a spur of the moment decision to fit them. Only took me about 4 hours in total!! Think I'll do a single turbo conversion next week:D
  17. I hadn't pulled very hard on the coil packs for fear of breaking something but I've got them off now. Thanks Martin.
  18. Panic over! Think I've worked it out now:)
  19. Hope somebody can help. I'm trying to replace the plugs with the Denso's I got from Alex the other week. Got the cover off then removed two 10mm screws which seem to retain the coil pack (is that what it's called?) which sits over eah plug. What do I do next though? Can't see the top of the old plug even though it seems to be loose. Did a quick search but can't find anything which helps. Help please!!
  20. I've had the standard alarm replaced twice by Toyota in the 14 months I've owned the car:( It cost approx £110 the first time but failed within 6 months! They tried to charge me the same again until I pointed out that it should be under warranty. The fobs are a bloody liability in that they frequently cease to work, effectively locking you out of the car:eek: I have a diskloc which I regard as a better deterrent so I can't be bothered to upgrade. The slider is definitely for enabling/disabling the internal sensors, these should be checked regularly as they can fail although the locking system will still function.
  21. Thanks guys. I'm glad to hear it's going to be as easy as the drivers side one which I done recently to cure a leak. Got to sort it soon as the squeak is driving me up the wall.
  22. I've got a really annoying sqeak from the front passenger side. Reckon I've tracked it down to the headlight unit on that side and was wondering if access to it is as simple as the drivers side one which I had to remove a while back. If it isn't that then it might require removal of the front bumper to find the cause. I'm presuming that's a whole lot more difficult. Have any of you guy's attempted removing the front end or is it something which requires specialist attention?
  23. I'm pretty sure that a lot of people on here are running 1.1 bar without an FMIC. I think the pipes are more susceptible to splitting when running increased boost and this risk will obviously be higher if they've never been changed before. Hard pipe upgrade kits are available but not cheap from what I've seen. There's a recent thread which discusses at length the various fuel pump options here: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6915&highlight=fuel+pump Again though I think lot's of owners are running your boost levels using the standard one. Don't if the head gasket is steel but the MKIV is not known for suffering BHG so you should'nt need to worry about that at this stage. HTH
  24. Optimax all the time for me. No problem getting it round where I am as there are two Shell stations close to me.
