Re: Timing issues after fitting Tomei Poncam camshafts
Hoppy replied to Hoppy's topic in mkiv Technical
Would recommended getting some adjustable pulleys too, if you haven't already ov course. I had to advance/retard the timing a little to get it running smooth on initial setup. As a note: I also fitted new front cam seals during the install, just to be safe. Good luck with the install bud -

Sorry bud, just noticed this. To date these Poncams have performed flawlessly. Car runs smooth as silk on tick over. Made a noticeable difference across the entire rev band, compared to stock camshafts, imo. Very user friendly road cams, as far as I'm concerned. No regrets here bud. Hope this helps Stunning TRD Supe btw. (Jealous +1 ) -
for sale 1000+ BHP Exedy Carbon-R triple plate clutch
Hoppy replied to JamieP's topic in Parts for Sale
Box is now out of the car. The centre pull ring/bearing has pulled away from the LA's pressure plate . It just slides away from clutch during clutch fork operation, instead of the usual pull/release function. Not sure if I need a replacement LA pressure plate, or just a new Toyota release bearing TBH?? -

Haven't heard anything from them yet. They planned to remove the box Friday. I'm in work this weekend, so will pop up there on Monday and hopefully it will be done. Hoping it's a problem with the thrust bearing and not the clutch itself. I'll post up the outcome. -

for sale 1000+ BHP Exedy Carbon-R triple plate clutch
Hoppy replied to JamieP's topic in Parts for Sale
Jamie, sorry to hijack, but did you have any issues with your previous HKS LA clutch?? had mine fitted for less than a thousand miles, and yesterday the pedal went solid. Slave cylinder is fine. I used all new Toyota supporting parts on the install. Also my LA twin plate rattles like hell, and apparently they are supposed to relevantly quiet clutch. Have you heard or had any of these issues previously your self?? Sorry again for the hijack bud, Steve. -
Steve, can u put me down for a pair of these skinned handles also. In no immediate rush mate, but will deffo take a pair when the time comes. Cheers

Only now noticed this chaps. I'm still abount in my RZ

Just done a quick search now. It does look that way mate, yes. I remember seeing them, back when I fitted my Do Lucks. Just checked my receipts, Christ that over 12 months ago. Doesn't time fly!!

I fitted a pair of those Do Luck brake lines. Trouble free installation, and no problems to date I think the HKS braided brake line kit also use stainless fittings, iirc. Bit dearer than the Do Lucks though. Your Supra's looking real nice Jack, fair play mate must be because its red

Re: Timing issues after fitting Tomei Poncam camshafts
Hoppy replied to Hoppy's topic in mkiv Technical
The cams were good mate. I checked the valve clearances, replaced a few shims, and re-adjusted the cam pulley positions and the car ran near perfect. -
Ok mate, nice one. He did mention he was moving, when i previously spoke to him. I'll give him a ring tomorrow anyhow, to see if I can confirm a delivery date

Hi mate Had a million things to sort this week, but will definitely phone him tomorrow and see if I can get through to him. I'll pm u tomorrow mate, once I've tried phoning. Cheers mate.

Re: Timing issues after fitting Tomei Poncam camshafts
Hoppy replied to Hoppy's topic in mkiv Technical
Ok, the previous timing was out slightly: http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/1193/98843871.jpg I re-adjusted the the timing today, and the lower T/belt pulley mark is now aligned to the oil pump timing mark, and the cam timing remains set @ TDC. However, it made very little difference, if i'm honest, the problem remains. The engine ran perfect before i changed the cams, so with the timing now set correctly, i'm thinking the problem must be either with the new camshafts themselves, or possibly one of the coil packs, which were removed before fitting the camshafts. I'll lift the cam covers again in the morning, and pray i don't find a broken camshaft. Is there a way to check the coil packs for issue's?? I've already replaced the original brittle connector clips for the coil packs, so they can be eliminated as the cause. Cheers. -

Was called into work today/tonight so didn't get a chance to work on car today. But i'm not on call today, so plan to spend a full day sorting this timing issue, and re-fit all the other bits. I'll set the timing belt pulley timing mark to line up with the oil pump timing mark (as per your pic) and hopefully the timing issue will be no more. I'll report back here with the outcome later on. Cheers. P.S Thanks for the pic btw, it's much appreciated mate -

Ok thanks for the replies and advice so far chaps. I'll remove the adjuster and belt and start from scratch and set timing position points. I'll update the thread with the outcome. Cheers. -
Re: Timing issues after fitting Tomei Poncam camshafts

I set the ATI's (0 deg TDC) mark to match 0 deg mark on the carbon lower cover. Didn't realize the oil pump had a timing mark TBH. Is there a big difference in terms of degree's between the two. First i tightened the tensioner, and then checked/set the timing, to the current position displayed in pics. Do aftermarket camshafts require different default set timing angles?? to compensate for the extra lift etc, or do they normally match the OEM default position. -
Hi guys I fitting new Tomei Poncam 264 camshafts and pulleys today. The install all went fine, but now the car runs lumpy, and won't tick over, and although it revs ok, it's putting out a little black smoke from the exhaust, which makes me think the timing is not 100% correct. I set the timing before removing the belt and set the new Tomei pulleys @ TDC which is the position the OEM pulleys were previously set at. I used the correct method of evenly tightening the bolts when installing the camshafts, so i don't think the camshafts themselves are damaged, although i will remove the cam covers again tomorrow and check the cams for any damage, to confirm this. Tomei say these 264 cams are a direct bolt on part and no additional parts are required to fit, and they should run pretty much fine on current ECU settings. Although i will ov course get the car re-mapped to suit these new cams a.s.a.p. Here's some pics of the current timing positions: http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/3992/29926784.jpg http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/5663/70552888.jpg http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/8610/27458525.jpg http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/8672/40376248.jpg http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/4919/38019344.jpg Do i need to advance/retard the timing on the pulleys to fine tune the running?? as they are currently set at 0 deg (Tomei default setting) Any help would be much appreciated Many thanks in advance Steve

thanks also for putting the re-location kit together for sale. As originally I didn't have a clue what components I needed. It simplified things, Big time keep up the good work guys

This is how i mounted mine: http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/3812/p1010972n.jpg http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/4063/p1010974bh.jpg I bought 2 x 12mm rubber nuts, cut the nut off the end, slid the rubber sleeves over the cables, drilled 2 holes in the boot floor and snugly pushed the sleeves into the drilled holes (thus protecting the cables from any sharp edges, and keeping any moister out.). I then feed the 12V power cable through some armor cable sleeve and sent it to the front. Note: To fit the battery in this position you will need to temporarily drop the fuel tank a little to allow you get the bolts in from underneath, then tighten the tank straps back. I used button head bolts, so they would not cut into the fuel tank. There's easier ways of doing it i know, but this was the only space i had to mount the battery, due to my ice install. Hope this helps

Hi guys Would anyone happen to know a e-bay seller called "blueandwhite1975" (aka Ric Armstrong) I bought a set of these lights from him - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320924813552?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_500wt_947 It's been 6 weeks now and he won't answer my e-mails or telephone calls. I'm already trying to sort this with E-bay, but thought i'd ask on here also. Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance Steve
