Its a sorento if you please Didnt try the battery off the sorento last night as I'm not convinced it is a battery prob. But, to shut you guys up and with the loss of light, left mine on charge over night. Will test it shortly, if it works I've got a lot of hats I'll be willing to eat Edited: Just tested battery, one multimeter is lighting upto 12 and another older one is still reading just under 9. Going to take battery back to Halfords and let them test it. Hopefully they'll swap it for a new battery then that will either work or eliminate. I'm still not convinced its battery

I bet you a weeks salary its not the battery - not getting any lights or anything when trying to start up and I've never had this before. But elimination is the name of the game

I've got a clifford alarm that was on valet mode when I was doing the work yesterday. This was still working this afternoon when I first got home, but not a little later about 5.30ish onwards. No alarm now, no valet light, no response from the fob. Thankfully central locking is working using the key. I'm thinking of taking the battery back to Halfords anyway tomorrow as its got a 3 year guarantee.

Ok - I see where you are coming from. Will go and disconnect the battery terminals. Just a thought but immobiliser?

Did that - was holding 9 volts. The battery isnt the only thing not happy. Have put it on charge and will leave it overnight. Could I have simply disturbed a cable or a connector which may be doing this when I took off the dash? I've been thinking. When I got in the car this morning to try it, I thought I turned off a switch to my underbody neons, but I dont remember seeing them on last night and I would've done as it is soooo dark here. If I had of left them on, then maybe the battery is drained. But after a charge I have tried to switch these lights on and nothing is happening. So, could there be a fuse on these that has blown that might be connected in-line on the live somewhere? I dont know, clutching at straws, making wild guesses and hoping above all hopes, knowing it cant possibly be, that the battery will be 100% in the morning and the car will fire first time. Ok - definitely eliminated the battery - connected it to the sorento and nothing. I'm not getting any ignition lights at position 1 of the key, nothing.

It just seems too much of a coincidence to be the battery. I mess up last night and suddenly the battery dies. Me doesnt think so - but if it is, then fantastic.

Ha ha ha bloody ha - and I was just about to offer a weeks full board I've got a receipt in my hand Ian for the exact battery you mentioned which went on the car new on 28th March!! I've just tested voltage at the fuses. It has 6v at both the EFI's and the AM2 but not showing anything at the ign inside - either that or I couldnt get a good enough earth. Will now go and hook up the sorento K14 to see if it will give it anything. Its strange I've had many a knackered battery on many a knackered car, but none where I have lost everything almost. The battery has been on charge over five hours now and it seems to be getting worse. Now stop laughing at me

Ok, I'm guessing a multimeter is what I've got in my garage - two metal 'pens' attached by wire, one which has a series of lights that show the voltage? So I put them where?? Just checked and eliminated the battery - 9v at the terminals. Now I havent got alarm or central locking, or anything in key position 1 either. Losing light too . . . is this solvable in 24 hours??? Dont think I'm going to be showing at southwest motor show on Sunday

I'm desperate and half sozzled now so its the offer of a double bed too. How do I check for 12v at each of the fuse points?

Now I'm getting really p'd off. Battery showing 80% charged, so took charge off and tried to start her up. Nothing - dead. Went to take valet mode off, nothing, no alarm. Have still got silly things like lights, hazards etc, but thats about it. Checked fuses - all good. (Oh, I was upside down so made the mistake - 7.5amp on ign. )

Thats what I was thinking - maybe it needs more. Going to give it another hour on charge and then try again

Yep - my thoughts exactly. Have changed it back.

OK - checked all fuses and they seem ok. Tried to start her and: position 1 - everything fired up position 2 - nothing So put it on charge and battery was showing position 1 - everything ok position 2 - nothing Tried again position 1 - everything fired up then slowly things started shutting off, fuel pumps died, radio died, ignition lights died. Am I being hopeful or does it just sound like a flat battery. This was a new Halfords battery back in April, but like I said before, with my fuel pump prob car has not moved now for 3 nearly 4 weeks, other than a quick trip down the lane last Sunday. Oh, and when I checked footwell ign fuse - it had been changed to 20 amp instead of the said 7.5. Would there be a reason for this or just someone being lazy in the past and replacing it with the wrong one?

Ok - make it a five day stay then, we've got good weather at the moment Just got in - will be donning my work clobber and getting onto it!!

Everything goes off - I'm trying to think, there was one light on the dash that was just very faded, but cant remember if it went off. One thing I didnt try was taking the connections off the nos switch to see if that had any effect. Bllx

Tempted to go home at lunch time and check it out, rather than wait for home time. Lets hope this is it . . . thanks K14. Would this really allow everything to work on pos 1 but not pos 2? Fingers and everything else crossed.
