missfire at low rpm

hi the last couple of days i have picked up a misfire, im not sure why its doing it but the revs hold high when the car is warm aswell, the fuel smells sweet so im not sure whether the choke is disconnecting properly, causing it to over fuel, after 2500rpm the misfire goes but comes back when the rpm drops back below.

anyone had this issue before?

Check your vacuum pipes. Especially the ones to the map sensor and fuel pressure regulator.

Then do an error code test.

Could be the o2 sensor? Probably wouldn't notice that so much at higher rpm if its happening then aswell

Have you washed the car recently, has the engine got wet?

Check the condition of the plugs, check the HT leads are okay and secure, remove the distributor cap and check condition of contacts/rotor arm.

i bled the system a last weekend so might be water in the plugs, will that cause it to idle at 1100 rpm? its able to pull off by itself which i definitely knows not supposed to happen lol

That's normal when you start the car from cold, it should drop to around 700 after a few minutes.

no i mean it stays around the 1100 rpm range, even when up to temp

its going in for a service tomorrow to see if that sorts out the miss fire.

interesting. i picked up the same problem today it seems. except mines a tt. im checking vacuum pipes and sparks and ht leads tomorrow to see if it solves the problem

the service solved mine in the end, it turns out the previous owner's trusted mechanic wasnt as trusting as they thought,only 3 of the spark plugs were changed, because he could'nt be f**ked to do his job right. its solved the miss fire and the high revving issue i should have a rotor arm arrive today as well so il replace that and then pay day might see me gettin some magnacore leads and a dizzy cap :-)

such a pain in the arse when people lie about the service history according to mine it was fully serviced. but the last mechanic charged the previous owner for the work and parts and only did half the work. what a bell end. i made sure the work was all carried out properly with all the recommended parts used and it feels like a totally different drive :-) just shows that if its done right it runs right haha

The correct diagnosis would be to use a gas analyser up the exhaust to check HC's. If it was an ignition miss the HC's would be high. if it was an injector not firing, either all the time, or occasionally, the HC's would be normal. I see supposedly competent and long standing garages and mechanics making a total meal out of diagnostics every week, usually using the "let's try changing this" school of thought, which makes them look incompetent, which they are, and makes the customer pay for diagnosis time that's patently excessive.
