Hey guys!

I've officially started saving for my Supra! :D

Going to speak to Jurgen in about 9months and get a decent TT6 imported hopefully with a few goodies.

What is the rough market value with regards to condition and mileage etc?

Look forward to be part of a prestigious club! :)

Also, any tricks to help me out with insurance? I'm only 20 years old and will hopefully be 21 by the time I own one. Do imports attract a higher premium than UKs? If so why? Would it be better to get a UK and save the insurance or budget the insurance into the overall price? Just been looking at a few quotes and they're quite scary! :O

I wouldn't celebrate planning to own a Supra just yet..! phone around and get some insurance quotes first...! LOL

Welcome to the Club..!

I've just turned 22 and know all about the insurance.

To insure me on a J-spec TT6 it would cost 3500 a year. The UK TT6 I'm buying in a couple of weeks (yay too) is going to cost me 1000 a year.

Most companies won't inusre you due to age or the fact it's an import and quite a lot won't if it's been modified. This is from experience as I was phoning around for a few weeks before I decided to buy a UK spec car.

Only problem is I'm paying about 4000 more for the UK car over the J-spec but I'll have my money back in 2 years :)

Good luck!

Edit: Oh and I'll be in the exclusive UK TT6 owners club ;)

Fantastic! So in the long run its better to get a UK spec for the insurance? Aren't they quite hard to come by though?

Also, why do imports attract a significantly higher premium than UKs? In Josh's case, 200% :O

@Josh - Is this full comp or tpft? Which company is it with as well? I think I'll give them a look because I'll be 21 when I purchase one and hopefully shouldn't be miles off of your quote.... :) 1500 or something maybe?

Insurance-wise getting a UK spec will be the best bet but they are extremely hard to come by. The one I'm buying is almost completely stock so the insurance is pretty damn cheap.

I'm insuring it with Admiral multicar on a policy with my Mum and Sister. By myself they only wanted 1200 so it's going down to around 950 on the multicar.

I think there were only 250 UK TT6 Supras made and there aren't many left in the country. I was lucky to ask about getting one the day the person who's selling it was going to put it up for sale and it was offered to me via PM. Plus he only lives 10 mins down the road so I didn't have to commit to buying it the first time I saw it and could give it a good look over.

I'm sure if you keep looking there will be one that will come up and if you do find a UK TT6 that's been modified then you can put it back to stock if it makes the insurance cheaper.

All the UK tts I've found seem to be Auto though :( Or if they are a TT6 they're like 15k!! My budget could probably stretch to 10k for the car so hmmmmmm!

What kinda insurance is other people paying for their imports? There are loads on the forum so they surely can't be that hard to get on the road?

Maybe better for you to purchase a nice GT4 keep it for a couple of years and then..? look into getting a Supra..!

Or you could buy a N/A Targa Supra and start building a TT6/Single engine, in the 2yrs you will have the car looking the biz and just need to dump the engine in..!

I pay just over 500 fully comp on my import, 29yo male, no ncb with all modifications declared - thats also on a multi car policy with Admiral.

Insurance will be high regardless, it is a group 20 car & deemed dangerous to most insurers due to it being a powerful RWD car.

Imports are frown upon by a lot of companies as they see it as a grey area, the is not from here, parts will be more expensive & harder to come by etc. That's why it is best to speak to import specialists.

Oh & the cheapest doesn't always mean the best! Somethings things are cheap for a reason!

Who would be a decent import insurance company to approach then?

Just need to get some quotes together! :D Should have enough money for the car AND insurance but obviously it's nice to save some money on the insurance. :)

Yeah a UK car would probably be about 13-15k for what you want.

If you can afford the high inital outlay it would be worth it to have insurance for 1000 instead of 3500.

A lot of people on here love the auto 'box and the only reason I want a 6 speed is because I think it will be more enjoyable to drive and I think I may want to go single in the future :)

Good man!

A lot of people seem to love them and I've had a ride in a J-spec auto BPU and it seemed really good but I think I'm too young to be driving an automatic car :)

Totally agree! I want a fully immersive driving experience. If I'm shelling out 10k for a car then it better be the one I want! :D I think the best way to make up my mind or at least cast doubt over the transmission would be to have a ride in both.

Already created a Surrey meet page! Haha :)

Well when I get mine (in 2/3 weeks) if you're in the Midlands or if I'm in Surrey I'll give you a ride :)

Yeah you get I think 35 posts then you have to pay the 10 membership fee to carry on posting. If you pay the fee for 3 years then you become a lifetime member (on request)!

Edd, don't rule out the tiptronics. At 10K you are in tipronic range and you won't regret it. Although, I am 36 and never had an auto until my Mrs got an Audi tiptronic and I have never looked back since. Maybe if I was still 20 I would want a manual.

Mate, don't worry too much about insurance. Josh has some scare tactics. His insurance estimations are high due to his location. There are plenty of people who the same age, if not younger, who have much better quotes on the J-Spec. Just get onto Adrian Flux or call up insurers directly to get some real quotes.

I for one am younger (upcoming 21 year old also), and I've been quoted some faily good prices. I've been driving an N/A over half a year now and the TT premiums are not much more than the N/A.

Scare tactics?

I live in a good area, it might just be an area where lots of people claim on insurance.

Must be, I've seen you post countless posts about your insurance estimations, and they are simply ridiculous. I can only assume it's down to your location, because I am younger than you and I'm getting quotes that are about 15-20% of what you've been getting. And they are official quotations (phone-in, locked 30 day pre-payment) on good policies.

Ah no way but yeah it's true, I was being quoted about 3500 or a J-spec TT6. I think the cheapest I've managed to find it was 3200 but it's generally around 3500.

Sorry if I put you off OP but just check insurance for yourself and hopefully you'll get a good deal :)

Just PM'ed sky insurance to see what they say and I'll start ringing around soon. Got about a year to wait before I can even think about speaking to Jurgen so plenty of time for saving and playing insurers off against each other! :D

One way or another I will get one! Haha and hopefully just get some RLTC and drive her carefully and should be onto a winner! :D

(Don't shoot me Attero) Unfortunately Sky won't insure you if you're under 23.

A lot of the companies I tried wouldn't insure me because it was an import and the ones that would said I was too young.

I'm sure you'll find someone who will do you a good deal :)
