hodge Posted April 1, 2010 Share Posted April 1, 2010 Can someone please tell my why this pipe is here on the bottom of the water pump. There wasnt 1 on my origional water pump. Its a genuine Toyota pump ive bought but cant understand why its there. Is it some sort of drain/pressure outlet or something. Do I block it off or just leave it at it is. pistonbroke Posted April 1, 2010 Share Posted April 1, 2010 As far as I know, If it wears and leaks internally, it will drip out of that pipe, (that also has a rubber extension bit) that stops the coolant leaking onto the altenator and being flung all over the engine. Chris Wilson Posted April 1, 2010 Share Posted April 1, 2010 Yep, stops leaks past the carbon seal getting into the alternator. Toyota had warranty claims on other models due to oil and / or water damage to the alternator so they went the extra mile on the MKIV. hodge Posted April 2, 2010 Author Share Posted April 2, 2010 Yep. I bought the PHR oil pump from Paul whiffin with only a few miles. The weld is very good I took it to work and had it checked out. Swampy442 Posted April 2, 2010 Share Posted April 2, 2010 Hodge, its whats called a 'dry drain' mate. If you get any fluid out of it you know the water pump is leaking internally.
