View Full Version : Dyno Day - Central Scotland (Performance HQ, Dalgety Bay, Fife) - POSTPONED***

tDR
03-10-09, 00:07
As per the title:

What: Dyno Day, jointly with the Nissan 200SX Owners Club (www.sxoc.com/vbb)
Where: Performance HQ (http://www.hqgarage.boschauto.co.uk/Performance-HQ-Garage/Location) (Previously known as Dastek)
When: TBA on a new thread when date confirmed. Starting Early AM
Price: 30 (2-3 runs back to back, AFR & Boost monitored along with BHP / Torque measured and graph printout given)
Deposit: 15 - NON REFUNDABLE - to be paid by Paypal directly to the SXOC Paypal account, address of which to be confirmed. The deposit is to allow the day to go ahead regardless of no shows - past experience shows many people put their names down then don't show on the day or pull out at the last minute which puts the whole day in danger of being canned as the Dyno operator needs to turn a profit.

Full address:

Performance HQ Garage Services: 16 Ridge Way, Hillend Business Park, Dalgety Bay, Fife, KY11 9JN.

Have spoken with PHQ, they anticipate their new Mainline Dyno (auto friendly) to be in by this date and after following speaking with guys from SXOC (this will be a joint day to get the required numbers), the start of April is the preferred time for people to have their cars ready.

Stick your name down below along with some info, including whether Auto or Manual as the RR places like to know what's coming ahead of the day:

0. Examplenamehere - '97 Supra TT Auto <600bhp expected>

1. tDR - '09 Alfa Romeo 159 Ti 2.4 JTDm Manual <240bhp expected>
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.

Cheers,

Brian.

*** UPDATED 02/02/10 - To reflect dyno decided upon with provisional date and information on required deposit ***
*** UPDATED 30/03/10 - To reflect date not yet confirmed, likely to be a Saturday in April***
*** UPDATED 24/04/10 - Thread closed due to further delay - new thread to be made when date confirmed***

I'd like to hear your opinion on hypertech brian, I had my car RR there a while ago, it seemed somewhat eratic on the results of each car.. It was a range of cars, not just supras.. Have you had much experiance with them?

We lined up Hypertech previously and a bunch of us went but then they found their dyno wasn't working when they tried to run a car - said their software was updated the night before and hadn't been tried since so they needed to get the guy that sets it up back before it would work again. Disappointing on the day but they were sure Autos weren't a problem which is what us lot really need.

Havent seen any results from there but know it's a Dyno Dynamics so it should be comparable with the Surrey Rolling Road (club benchmark) results if we get them to run the dyno in the same mode - shootout something or other, Ryan G has mentioned it before so can find out.

Anyone know if Dastek have done any autos lately?

Have put the date back a week, now the 14th. Needs to be a Saturday as nowhere seems to do Sundays.

Cheers,

Brian.

Need 20 runners so we're miles off - would like to see 10 Supras down before going to sxoc for 10 200SX's.

We're close date wise so no doubt will only get a further away date if phoning to book now.

Let's see if 10 runners here stick their names down for December, have updated thread to reflect this and will stick my name down.

Cheers,

Brian.

Nah, we've not got the interest / numbers to run one yet so have edited the thread to reflect it will go ahead once we have enough people looking for a RR session.

I'd be up for this too, and my car was dyno'd at Surrey Rolling Road before I bought it. AFIK theres been no more mods done since so should give an idea of how comparable the two RRds are.

Yeah, just a question of when. Have spoken to one of the mods on sxoc with a view to a joint day at Hypertech (Dyno Dynamics RR, should be fine for Autos) in Bonnybridge near Falkirk - they're up for it so just need to get the ball rolling.

Provisional timescale - end of Feb.

Have been speaking to Hypertech about this - they can do Sunday (rather than Sat) 28th Feb but are looking for a 50% deposit which is abnormal given it's never been necessary for other RR days I've been to or arranged.

Also found out Dastek have changed name to Performance HQ (or something like that!) following a management buyout - Gerry is still there though which is why most folk like them! They've sold the Dastek dyno they had and are waiting on a Mainline dyno coming - these are new and are meant to be similar to Dyno Dynamics with all the good features and improved software. Incidently, Dyno Dynamics Oz and Europe have gone bust...

Given autos can be done on a DD down south, it may mean Performance HQ can do all our cars once they have the new dyno in place which is expected to be sometime in Feb...

What do we think folks?

Cheers,

Brian.

Go with Performance HQ Brian, means we are all able to get a run on the dyno, and it will be a nice little meet.

Whats the damage on cost??

Hypertech have a Dyno Dynamics and say they can do autos also.

My personal preference will be Performance HQ - was only entertaining another location as Dastek couldn't do autos.

Will contact Gerry at PHQ...

Cost I'm not sure on but have seen dyno days at anywhere between 20 and 60 in the past!

tDR
29-01-10, 01:01
Another update on this - have made contact with Gerry at Performance HQ. He gets his Mainline dyno in March so can take us on a Saturday then once it's in and the cost will be 30 per car for 2 - 3 runs including a graph printout with BHP / Torque / AFR etc. plotted against RPM.

Suggest we postpone 'til then and get booked in with Gerry for as soon as he can take us. This means the location will be Dalgety Bay, Fife, just over the Forth Road Bridge - pretty central for most of us!

Cheers,

Brian.

Not yet, waiting on a provisional date.

Both RR places can do autos by the sounds of it but will make this a Performance HQ day.

Your car will need a loan of a TRAC ECU from another auto to stop it dropping gears and trying to climb out of the dyno regardless of dyno it's on - that was the conclusion when I tried to run it on a Dyno Dynamics down south with Ryan G. The connectors are there for it in the passenger footwell but the TRAC ECU was binned before I got the car, permanently disabling the stock traction control. Two min job to whack one in for a run if someone will loan you theirs...

Thread title and 1st post updated to reflect provisional date (Sat 3rd of April) along with details on a required deposit.

This deposit (15) isn't for the Dyno owners but for the runners to ensure the day definitely goes ahead regardless of last minute pull outs or no shows which historically have put the day at risk.

Please only put your name down if you are serious and willing to pay this deposit to confirm your place on the list. The balance is to be paid on the day.

Current list:

1. tDR - '09 Alfa Romeo 159 Ti 2.4 JTDm Manual <240bhp expected>
2. billy bhoy-93 supra gz aero tt auto unsure of bhp!not falling for that again!
3. brian mallon-supra tt auto-unsure bhp!

6. Geo Single T67 6 speed (530bhp)
7. Joka Seat Cupra 1.8T (180bhp) Geo's Mate
8. Rosscod22
9.
10.

Please remove your name from the list if you can no longer make it or are not willing to pay a deposit. Will add the Paypal address (SXOC) to pay the deposit to once I have it.

Cheers,

Brian.

Brain we can try down in Kilmarnock, i got mine dyno'd there with the Integra forum and the results were the Exact same as SSR. give or take few ponnies, only down side is ONLY MANUALS can run. Its 25 for 2 runs. The guy that owns it, built it himself, and its not a Bad set up.

only down side is ONLY MANUALS can run. Its 25 for 2 runs. The guy that owns it, built it himself, and its not a Bad set up.

Problem is that rules out 80% of the cars so not much use :(

You also mentioned people sitting in your boot for traction - always the sign of a bad dyno to me, if the car is strapped in properly that shouldn't be necessary. You end up with strange looking dyno curves because of wheelspin-traction-wheelspin-traction.

Still no reply from PHQ so no idea what's going on with that lot. May have to be Hypertech after all...

Gerry at PHQ got back to me earlier in the week - there has been a delay in shipping the mainline dyno from Japan but it's on the way now. Rough estimate another 8 weeks for it to get to him and be installed / up and running.

Given our attendees list is well out of date, I'm gonna close this thread now and post a new one when I have a confirmed date for our dyno day.

Cheers,

Brian.
