ShamelessTT
Ok ive had my UK Spec brakes for 8 months now (front and rear), they were brand new (inc discs the works) when i bought them 8months ago (Geniune toyota parts). Anyway there pi**ing me right off now, as they sometimes sqeek , squeal at low speed , craweling along to a stop. Its a really really loud noise, im absolutely sure everything is fitted right with anti rattle shims / anti squeal etc (CW fitted), but ive read somewhere theres a known issues with UK Spec brakes doing this....... Could they just need a serious clean? Anyone got a solution, cos it really sounds lame....... Si
marc_p
Do you use the car everyday?
ShamelessTT
Nope once in a while, when the weather is good
marc_p
That COULD be the problem, the brake discs could be going rusty and start to squeal. They do it on my mums evo and were 99% sure it's due to the fact it's not used regularly. I suppose the best way to check would be to go out for a decent drive and see if it stops doing it after a while. i.e. once the discs are cleaned of rust. ShamelessTT
True you have a point, but i did 60mile round trip on Sunday and on the way back it did it. Im sure its something to do with brake temperature........but i might be completely barking up the wrong oak tree.
marc_p
That is weird then isn't it, but i'm sure there's someone on here that will know what it is as a 60 mile trip should have easily taken the surface rust off.
Chris Wilson
If you have my fast road pads and do not specifically ask for anti squeal and anti rattle shims I always fit them without them, as you get a firmer pedal and there's less chance of pad sticking. Did I specifically fit the shims, you'd have had to ask for them if so, I have done this on a few cars?
ShamelessTT
ahhhhhhh! i have a sneaky feeling i have toyota everything (except for the break lines).......and i didnt ask so the question is can i be arsed to fit them, its intermittent at the moment and the breaks are fantastic except for that noise.... Thanks for shedding the light on that chris....
colsoop
Mine squeal like a pig when cold and coming to a slow stop, I am more a function over form guy Maybe you need more copper grease on the back of the pads.
Bobbeh
No squeal at all here
Marco
Mine dont squeal either. Got them brand new from toyota 2 months ago and I'm using TRD pads.
robin
Mine used to squeek when cold but were ok when warmed up. Just driving gently without brakes for a few miles would be enough for them to cool and start squeeking again. Since I fitted the cw pads there has been no squeeling at all. ShamelessTT
Cheers for the input guys, it does seem to be more prone with cold brakes!
