RedM Posted October 28, 2006 Share Posted October 28, 2006 First some facts. Car is a 1995 JDM Auto with 94.5K miles. Exhaust is a Greddy Ti and both cats are still in. The car had been left overnight before starting her up (approx 14 hours). This first clip is the initial start and the smoke begins after about 10 secs. The second clip is off the car having reached it's idle point. FYI, if I was to drive off from initial start the smoke stops by the time I've reached the main road about a mile and a half away. I've pulled up, jumped out and watched just to make sure. So, stem seals or just condensation? One idea. A friend of mine with with an S13 says that it could be negative back pressure related. Carl Posted October 28, 2006 Share Posted October 28, 2006 Would have to agree, the smoke looks white, I dont see any blue in that video. Just condensation from cold.. If it was stem seals it will be a cloud of blue smoke on startup. I would not be concerned at all unless it was smoking clouds of white once warm which would indicate head gasket failure. Rayman Posted October 28, 2006 Share Posted October 28, 2006 Mine is exactly the same as that red, in terms of smoke and also like you it clears up once the car is warm and is never seen again until next morning. It also stinks of petrol, the car also idles higher on cold start which obviously pushes out more exhaust gas along with the condensation. Im sure its condensation, what oil do you use? RedM Posted October 28, 2006 Author Share Posted October 28, 2006 At the moment I'm using Halfords Fully Synth 5w40 as it pissed through a bottle of Miller Oils equivalent in 2000 miles. s crane Posted October 28, 2006 Share Posted October 28, 2006 I had this on my escort rs turbo it was only 18 months old ,changed everythink, ended up being the turbo oil seals but it was a ford.valve stem oil seals normally makes it smoke more on first start of the day then less on hot starts. looks blue to me,its how mine started in the end every time i pulled up it smoked but as soon as i drove off it stopped Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
