I now have a suitable OBDII scan tool for VVTi

I now have a suitable scan tool for reading fault codes, doing real time VSV chacks, real time O2 sensor checks and a whole host more, that also works on the VVti models. So if you have a VVti with odd problems not created by add on gizmos (it won't "fix" top speed delimiter issues with auti boxes on VVti's, unfortunately), I may be able to help.

Yes, thanks for the info, it's a later model to the one your technician used, but worked on a VVTi at the weekend. It allows a lot more testing than i thought, and should be a Godsend for those awkward diagnostic jobbies. I appreciate your link to the guy.

Im really pleased your investment seems worthwhile, I was worried about it:)

Pete (F1 AE) first tried his 'big yellow one' saying if thst didnt work nothing would. It didnt. A cup of tea later, supped through the stern lips that scarred our glum faces, he said 'we could always try the old black one'. He wiped the cobwebs from its faded and battered body with an air of resignation. It worked.

The Saga continues......

Are you still having problems, I thought they were resolved? is it still a FBW problem? I am seeing 13+% throttle opening at idle, yet only a 79% at WOT on this car, I need to compare it with a known OK VVTi. Do you recall what happened with yours on the OBDII scanner?

Chris, my car is running fine since fitting the new throttle body assy c/w sensors. The codes Pete T obtained, and a talk with the guys at Jem in London ref Lexus VVTIs with similar problems made me go for it. I was just quipping about the saga of obtaining the error codes in the first place.

As to your question on throttle opening.....my biggest problem was having a garage that was keen to help me, and a guy with a scanner that seemed to work, but the two never met. So Pete T only read the logged error codes with engine off, nothing was done in real-time to see what was going on. Sorry.
