I got it manually, uninstalled the program one more time, cleaned out TEMP and temporary internet files, cookies, etc... killed the explorer.exe (nothing can run they run through explorer.exe), clicked the new task button, scrolled to C:\Windows\System32 then deleted the file stickrep.dll (migsters info), then used the reg cleaner (migsters info), restarted and both have gone, and CPU usage lowered, Im Batty Scott, BANG and the dirt is gone :)

Just for record EWIDO found 1 minor spyware, in 25 min scan, NOD32 found 0 in double that time, but neither found any of the files mentioned on Migster page (2nd link), or anything to do with this problem.

THANKS ALL FOR THE HELP....

Heres the reg cleaner that I got from migs info:

Now if I can figure out why my PC takes 10 minutes to shut down i would be as happy as a pig in poo:)

And its not appearing in the add/remove panel :(

hmmm, well that's suggesting you have Symantec Antivirus (the 'corporate' Norton.), and not the regular Norton Antivirus. There are some Norton-ish things which must be removed by other means before the Norton removal tool can run. (Systemworks and all that crap).

As I remember it, there are some alternate removal tools on the symantec site somewhere.. I'll have a look now.

Chris,

The people who are doing you damage are the guys selling the antim alware software.

You don't really have a virus which is why Norton didn't show it up. You just have a bit of adware.

The message "you have a virus" is just a scare to induce you to rush to their site and buy their software.

It's usually in the form of an exe (or similar) type file hidden on your computer.

Do a search (Start - Search) for "antim" or "alware" using "a word or phrase in the file" you should be able to find the offending file(s). Delete them or get Norton to stick them in jail.

If you know when you got this bug you can also narrow it down by date installed.

Once you have got over this I recommend you go to http://www.hyperossystems.co.uk and get some of their software. I have my hard drive split into 10 different computers (one separate for surfing, a couple for games, one for email, etc) and if I get something nasty I simply reinstall that particular computer from my backups, which gets rid of everything. Takes 2 minutes to reinstall.

Used it for 4 years now with no problems at all.
