Snowy conditions?

Ok there was snow on the surrounding area, but not on the road. And I bet they made damn sure it was clear before they did any speed runs too.

Nice car though. :)

And nice cold air intake temps as well to help its two tubbies. ;)

SSC supercar breaks Bugatti Veyron’s record

The SSC Ultimate Aero TT has ended the Bugatti Veyron’s reign as the world’s fastest production car after it hit a staggering 257mph.

To take the official title as world’s fastest car, the Aero TT had to race down a course, then turn round and make a second pass in the opposite direction for an average to be recorded.

Powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.2-litre V8, the American monster averaged 255.83mph.

Satellites normally used to measure the speed of missiles were used to record the Aero’s speed.

It will be a tense weekend for the SSC team as they must wait until Monday to have the results confirmed by Guinness.

If confirmed, the Aero will beat the Koenigsegg CCR’s current record of 242mph as the Veyron was never officially tested.

But it’s not as quick as SSC would have hoped for.

The Washington-based car maker claimed the Ultimate Aero TT – which you can wheel spin at 190mph – could reach 273mph.

SSC will submit official details of the test to Guinness on Monday to get the results confirmed.

It'll never be a Veyron beater...

Yeah it may go faster in a straightline but it will never be as polished all round.

The Koeniggsegg CCXR will probably be faster too...but I doubt they'll claim to be a Veyron beater.

Hell a go-kart with a rocket engine might be faster to 60...but there's more the Veyron than outright speed, amazingly enough!

The beauty of the Veyron is in the details and the fact that 2tonnes has never been made to *drive* better, in all circumstances.

Yeah I can't stand the thing either, looks like a trilobite and it was just a marketing exercise.

Of course it was a marketing exercise...all loss leaders are! The Veyron will never break even, it's a technical showcase, VAG saying look what we can do.

I respect what they achieved...though I'd probably never buy one even if I took home 8 figures from the Lottery.

summing up what I was going to say :D

I dont disagree though, it is ugly as hell. But I bet that its about the smoothest most refined car you can and will get for quite a long time at 200+mph.

I mean, sheer acceleration, and road legal, check out red victor 1 (nice bloke actually, met him at a show a while back), 0-60 in 1 second, fastest 1/4 mile in what, 7.5ish?

And yup, the ultima GTR holds those records.

They used the w16 because they COULD, and thats about it. ho-hum, leaving this now :D
