propshaft doughnut

Hi

I am having a custom prop fabricated to mate a T56 gearbox to an auto TT diff. I also have to change the doughnut but had the question of whether I could leave it out all together. I assume that would be a BAD idea as it must act to cushion driveline shocks to help protect the diff but I wanted to know what other people are doing. Also any ideas about what kind of abuse this doughnut can take before breaking?

cheers

Paul

It's probably there as a mate to the dual mass flywheel, to dampen drive line harmonics. With a T56 the whole harmonics change, so you are probably just as likely to NOT suffer harmonics with or without it. I can't see an issue with keeping it, though, unless this is a drag car. To bin it would mean a custom diff input flange, which could be costly.
