b.weeks
Hi all, It looks like I'm in next years Time Attack series. Therefore the car will be going on a diet and single with FMIC etc etc. Seeing as the FMIC sits in front of the radiator, and to aim for the 50-50 weight distribution, has anyone any experience of relocating the radiator to the boot of the car (interior will be stripped). I believe this was done on the most recent V12 Top Secret Supra. They have air intakes at the rear quarter windows that feed to the radiator and exists at the rear number plate (replaced with a grill) I think I recall. Anyone any comments on this? Would this be sufficent air flow? Wouldn't have thought you get much air that way - perhaps a roof scoop to get more air in?! Regards, Ben. Digsy
Since the top of your car is shaped like a big aerofoil you need to be careful with roof scoops. You might end up puttin gteh entrance in a low pressure region and hance get cock all flow or even reverse flow through the rad. Side scoops would be less risky, IMHO. Another concern might be the length and diameter of the pipes required to get the coolant from front to back and then back again without significant losses. Its obviously something than many mid engined cars have to do (albeit in reverse) but the Supra coolant pump wasn't designed with the additional system backpressure in mind. You may even want to think about an electric booster pump to help the water make the round trip.
jim_supra
It does seem like a lot of work for only a marginal difference, and it would more than likely cause more problems than it would solve.

I agree, would be a real pita to do for a very small difference!!
Chris Wilson
Don't, without wind tunnel data, or huge, power hungry, heavy fans, you won't be sure of enough air flow. Spend time and money on the suspension and brakes rather than the engine. Most of the cars I have seen in the series handle like dogs...
b.weeks
And I was just going to look in my Yellow Pages for the nearest wind tunnel ... unless there's a chance of sponsorship I s'pose. Thanks for the feedback all - very helpful. On a side note, so what items apart from battery and washer fluid can you relocate to the boot? NB I was thinking of relocating the air conditioning somehow to make it easier to remove for track days (would like to be able to put back in though ideally without too much effort). (Indeed I will be spending some time and money on the brakes and suspension)
