deffiently not :( cars can be replaced he cant and now his family will live in pain and stress i hope he can pull through but i highly doubt it, i hope nick hogan can live with the guilt but then again he should of had his seat belt on it could of saved him, young lads with big ego's and a over powerd car is a dangerous combo.

Seems like Nick Hogan is over it now though.

Taken from his Myspace blog

"omggggg its been forever since i blogged...hell i dont even know what blog means but i guess its where you write stuff for people to read

anyways my last one was before i even drove for mopar, if you check my pics youll see that i did end up driving for them for my amateur season and most of my pro rookie season. i recently left the mopar team tho...things didnt work out to well

but!....i picked up a new title sponsor...POLAROID! and started my own team with twin 350z's pretty cool i know

anyways id like everyone to wish my luck for my 08 season and keep john graziano in your prayers"

What a guy, lets wish him luck in his new season, oh and also make sure to keep that dude that he turned into a vegetable in our thoughts. Spoiled little brat.

Okay, I'm not using this as an excuse for his comment, but ask yourselves this...'Have you ever had to deal with causing the death of a friend?'... It must be an entirely different set of emotions, one thankfully I've not had to deal with. Just perhaps him burying himself back into a car could be his way of dealing with it. For all we know he could be hellbent now on pushing so hard he puts himself into a wall...

Not entirely unprobable, however I do agree the comments posted do come across as very shallow and maybe I'm looking for the good in him?

Just to add...

I've seen the results of something similar to this, and it isn't a nice thing.

My mom was a school headmistress at a private school in SA, and I often to used to pop in on my way home from work to her school, so I got to know the staff well. In particular there was this one young guy, bit of a petrolhead, had a mint mk2 golf, it was his P&J, no silly engine mods or anything like that, it was just VERY tidy. He was the ideal teacher, he was young, motivated, loved the kids, they all got on with him VERY well to the point that home family issues that are usually extremely difficult to extract from kids where being told to him. The kids had found someone on their level that they could respond to. He had gone from being a teaching assistant to the school guidance bloke in the space of a year. My mom's standards are silly high so this was no mean feat.

There was a sports event taking place off campus, so a bus was arranged for the all the kids, and while it isn't common place to do it any more due to health and safety, some of the kids used to travel in the teachers cars. And of course there was such interest to in Richard's golf, because all the kids loved the car because it was tidy, so of course targets were set for the kids, and 3 of them got the 'honour' of going with Richard.

My mom came straight home after the event, and was in the door 10 minutes when the phone rang, I answered it to a rather distressed secretary, there had been an accident. My mom shot down to the hospital to find that it had been Richard's car that had left the road and hit a bridge wall. What had been a 4 door golf, now simply looked a shortened 2 door. The back door's had been pushed into the wheel arch, with the B pillar moving back around 2 feet. Richard was injured, but not severely. 2 of the children were in serious but stable condition, the third however who had been sat in the passenger didn't survive. For my mom to stand there waiting for all the parents to arrive and ask that fateful question 'Is my child okay?' was a lot, and my mom can be a cold bitch at times when she has deal with certain things, but even this was too much for her.

Richard returned to work 4 weeks later, and I remember popping in to see how he was doing and have a look at his new car..... What I was greeted with was something I wouldn't have expected...

He was a shell, there was no spark left anymore, he did his job to the usual standard, but there was no more enthuasiam, he didn't go out of his way to help people. It was a completely different person and nobody could get through to him. He gave up living and just existed.. and for that I still have no idea of the pain that he must be going through.

Not related directly I know, but I thought that might cast a different view.

i was told by a few close friends that after my RTA i was a different bloke, i was off work for a year, when i got back they said i had a much more explosive temper and my memory was bad, thing is i know its bad and i am still addressing the issue ive got to go see a nuro doc next month for a chat and hopefully get another CT scan done so i can see if there is any lasting damage to my nut.

my accident was a combined speed of around about 120mph and it was a head on collision with an HGV, it happened in May 2000 just to give you an idea of how bad things can get, i was very lucky to get away with my life

I suspect the guy does care more than his comments lead you to believe. unfortunately he isnt the brightest guy around and cant really express himself properly and so it comes across as self absorbed.

As Gav says he is probably concentrating on the things he enjoys to try and block out the pain of losing a friend and possibly being the cause of his friends death.

Very sad all round really :(

  • 2 weeks later...

It seems Nick was arrested today (after turning himself in):

What a complete load of bullcrap. for them to claim he was only doing 30mph and that much damage to happen is ludicrous.

Taken from another site this just about sums it up nicely...

The tragedy to both families is compounded by the fact that unfortunately John was not wearing his seatbelt. Thankfully, Nick was wearing his. Because of what happened to John, the entire Bollea family will make it a priority to increase public awareness about the importance of always wearing your seatbelt.

I agree that the “tragedy to both families is compounded by the fact that unfortunately John was not wearing his seatbelt”. This John guy sounds like a real jerk! Nick had a few beers then drifted a race car down a city street, but this John character didn't have his seat belt on. If he had, he would have just floated around like a little angel during the wreck. What a dick this John is! I hate you so much! Lucky for him he's catatonic, because I'm gonna go give him a piece of my mind, and he's not gonna wanna see this attack coming.

Wwtdd?

"The Superficial" had a similar take on it:

But, you know what? It’s cool. This is totally the fault of the kid who didn’t wear his seatbelt. I’ve always maintained that, when in doubt, blame the person in the coma. Drag racing drunk? Pssh. That’s nothing. But not wearing a seatbelt? Christ, don’t people have any respect for the law anymore? Is it possible to put a comatose patient in the electric chair? You know, really make an example of him.
