Guest doz
Hi, I have to come clean, I don't actually own a Supra, but I was after a bit of technical help from you gents. I have a 1JZ-GTE and i'm dropping it into a Silvia, the downfall being that the 1JZ that I have chosen has a middle sump arrangement, which isn't suitable for the S body installment. Now the question is, do front sumps from Mk4 2JZ-GTE's fit onto the 1JZ-GTE? If so, where am I likely to come by one? Cheers for your help
Jake
'Front' sump?
Tones
Ive never seen a sump anywhere else than the front or wherever the engine is
Jake
I think I know what he means; the part of the sump that hangs down the lowest and makes the 'well' of oil for the pickup. I suppose he could be right in calling that part of the the oil pan the sump, I've always called the whole of the tin oil pan the sump. Aaaaanyroad, now we (I) know what he's after . . . anyone got one?
Jezz
Yes, they do, but you're thinking of the Aristo 2JZ. This has the sump at the front. Supras have it at the rear. Edit: I'm tired, it may be the other way round. Aristo's rear, Supra's front. You will also need the pickup and the cast sump plate as well as the tin sump pan. Any good breaker should have one. Scooter
i may have one.....................but on the supra the mesh/feed part of the oil pickup pipe sits deep in this part of the sump doesn't it? So i assume this pipe on a 1jz is more central and won't fit with a supra sump? (will foul the now higher middle section?) So does this pickup pipe mount in the same place (inside the 'second' sump section?) on the 1jz as 2jz?
Jake
Aaah, Jezz beat me to it. . . I was just thinking about this while out having a smoke just now. The 2JZ sump is in two parts; an alloy part that bolts to the block and a pressed steel oil pan that bolts to that. I guess you'd need both parts from a Supra 2JZ for fitting to a 1JZ. And not all Supra sumps are the same either. eg the VVTi 2JZ-GTE has a different sump arrangement to the old style 2JZs.
Chris Wilson
You'll need both the alloy casting, and the tin sump off a 2JZ-* engine. Also the pressed steel pan, and the oil pickup assembly. If you want a worrking level indicator, you need that, too, plus the dipstick and tube. I have a casting, but no spare pressed steel pan. The casting is the expensive bit... Guest doz
There are different sump arrangments for the 2JZ's and 1JZ's. Front, middle and rear. I realise I need the pressed steel pan and the cast alloy casting aswell as the pickup and the dipstick etc etc. Does anyone know which 2JZ had the front sump arrangement for definate? I know that the 1JZ Chasers and the like had a "front" sump. Thanks all for your replies so far

gsportcars
yep I had to overcme this problem when fitting the 2jz into my Lexus IS200. Here is a list of posible options you could choose. Toyota Aristo sump.....has oil pan at the front Lexus GS300 sump......same as aristo sump but the turbo oil return hole is blanked off. I used one fo these sumps and had the hole drilled out and a fitting put in for the oil return. Lexus IS300 sump......same as GS300 but the oil pan gives even more clearance for the cross member. it will allow the engine to be positioned further back in the engine bay. You should easily be able to find a GS300 in a breakers yard.
Guest doz
Thanks for that. I'll have a look as I need one ASAP. The gutting thing is, I bought a front sump off a guy from America and he swears he sent it out, all of 4 months ago, but it has never showed up.
