Tell him if he's going to do any proper off-roading to go for a proper off-road machine, otherwise there is really no need to go for anything that is severely compromised for everyday school-run activities. Most of these SUV's have road tyres and no ground clearance. They are designed for mounting kerbs and that's it. Seriously if he is going off road, the most important thing if off-road tyres.
