hodge
im going to replace my turbos mext month and when ive got them off I shall be fitting an EGT gauge. Ive done a search on fitting this probe and common concensice seems to point at fitting it in the exhaust runners either pot 1 or 6. Ive also read about probes breaking and taking out turbos when this happens (I dont want that). Chris Wilson has mensioned using inconel probes which is very strong and will not break. I am buying Defi gauges which are 1 of the bet in the market IMO so I would imagine the probes wont be cheap crap. Am I panicing over nothing about the probe braking here. Chris Wilson
Just buy a K type Inconel probe if it's not that type in the kit. Most are el cheapo probes, to be honest. RS Components have suitable probes, and they are inexpensive. swap the connector over from the kit, or use a new K type connector pair.

We bore Inconel bushes at work Chris, and it's the toughest stuff to bore. Is this why they are good for use as sensors etc.??
RobSheffield
Mine ran fine for 2 years with a defi probe in.
hodge
Think i'll get the inconel probe just to be on the safe side. I also machine inconel at work and indeed it is very tough. Just out of curiosity does anyone have a pic of a EGT sensor fitted to a set of stock turbos. Cheers

Is this why they are good for use as sensors etc.?? the nickel makes the alloy very abrasive hence why it eats through the carbide tips, NA is a good alloy to use where components will see heat (ie it will not go brittle and crack/break) in fact this would make excellent turbo manifolds as well as probes (if it wasn't so bloody expensive)
