probrox
Hi All, Don't know if anyone can help but i've been having some starting problems over the last couple of days. Only had the car since monday last week. Started saturday when the car just took longer than normal to start, then half a mile down the road all power cut out. Pulled over and the car started first time. Then yesterday car wouldn't start, didn't even try! So i jump started from my girlfriends car. Went to the shop and when i came out started fine. got home and washed the car, tried to start again after about 3 hrs and again nothing. I need some advice on what the cause of this might be. ie is the battery knackered or is it more likely that something is draining the battery while its just sitting there?? There is quite a powerful sound system in the car which i was running on a two hour drive friday evening, could this have caused problems. Since the first problem on saturday though, i havn't used the stereo at all, in an attempt to try and get some charge into the battery. If a new battery is required has anyone got any ideas on the best battery to use. Many thanks in advance Phil
Nic
Check the battery clamps, if it is cutting out then they may be loose. Remove clamps clean and make sure they are on tightly. If you are just doing short runs it could be that battery is not getting enough of a run to recharge. Get it charged and if it still doesn't hold the charge it may be need changing. The usual reason for battery drain is alarm systems.
kieren1234
When you disconnect the batter clamps that clamp onto the teminals, lightly sand the terminals and the clamps inside so there is definately a good connection, i had similar problems and this worked fine for me

probrox
If the battery terminals are dirty could this cause the engine to cut out while i'm driving along?? This is my most worrying problem at the moment.
Al Massey
no. you dont need a battery to run the car as the alternater supplies power to everything
