Ok I got J-Spec TT with full decat and nur spec system.Just taken the restrictor ring out and she peaks at 1.2 bar.The de-cat sections are 60mm diameter,is this about right for de-cats of this diameter? In other words,is this a normal figure and ok to run without the restrictor ring?

60mm or 2.5 inch (appx) is the correct size for a J-spec or should I say the common size, you can get 72mm or 3inch (appx) and so on. I personally would not run without a restrictor ring. You may be boosting at 1.2 bar just now but in the winter then you will have massive boost spikes and you will cause damage if not burst your turbos. There are people (Mr Boost to name one) who do not run any RR and had no trouble but it is a gamble and can be an exspensive one.

Best way to do it is to get a 1.0 bar RR and get a boost controlloer to raise the boost. It is not fail safe but better than a 1.2 bar RR or no RR at all.

Also if you have not got either a new smic or fmic then wait till you get that and you will be overboosting.

Am I right in assuming then that I could take my restrictor out and just set the boost controller to 1.2 bar and it will never exceed that come warm or cold weather?

No

A boost controller will only raise your boost, it will not stop boost spikes or over boost.

All the info you need has already been posted to be frank mate, running without a RR can very very risky and it is not worth it as the money that it could take you to repair your car when the turbos go pop could cost you quite a bit!

Make sure you ave the following in double decat

1.0-1.2 bar RR

FCD properly set to maybe 1.25 bar

New smic or fmic (but fmic is pointless for BPU)

Boost guage

Uprated fuel pump

Boost controller, this is optional but is a good way to raise boost with a 1.0 bar RR

As I said before there have been people that have risked running no RR some have had no probs but some have.

like me.

i have no ring and i boost to 1 bar in summer and 1.2 bar in winter. I use the Boost controller to up to a max of 1.2 bar in summer when necessary. However, these are only rough figures as for example 1st gear boost less than say 6th gear (in my car anyway)

Please note i still use stock intercooler but intend to upgrade soon so may need to add a ring after all.
