Pete
Beware, they vary tremendously. I looked long and hard for this and decided to go for the post office annual insurance as it was the best for features, value and a brand I can trust. It was better value for me as I've been to France, Rhodes and China later.

tichkent
Avoid Columbus. Good value, but a complete nightmare if you ever need to claim. They do absolutely everything possible to worm out of the claim and have tediously hard to fill in paperwork. I gave up in the end coz it wasn't worth it for the £85 they owed me - darn, I did just what they wanted me to do Can recommend annual insurance with Elephant in terms of value - but haven't had to claim through them yet. Will wait and see! Also watch out for getting ripped off on car hire in Florida. Be especially wary of any "free" car included with your package (after adding the required insurance it often works out more expensive than just hiring one yourself). Alamo are definitely the best value and all inclusive - decent web site too, definitely worth checking out if you haven't already booked a car. And don't let them persuade you to get anything bigger than a "compact" - they are huge!
