how_supra
Guys I know this has been done to death, but help me out (I've done a search but have no idea if I'm honest) Standard 16 wheels : Current set up Rears: 245 50 16 98v Fronts: 225 50 16 98v Its always been twitchy - not an issue - tyre pressure seems ok - need new rear tyres so now I'm assessing the tyre set up and wondering if there is a better set up. I'm also struggling to find a place that sells 245 50 16s (off the shelf without having to wait weeks for them to be delivered), so if ever there was an opportunity to make some changes all round, now seems the best time I'm dumping the car at a local friendly garage tomorrow, so some recommendations before then would be great
Ian W
standard tyre size is ideal
Whitesupraboy2
Ive never had 16 inch wheels but are those tyre walls right for 16" wheels?
Scooter
245/45/16 's can be used, and are recommended in later models, you may find these are more available?
how_supra
So 45 profile all round then? In terms of width they are correct for the rears - so no smaller (I don't particularly want to) I'm just trying to understand better

Ian W
Cheers Ian, and what would standard tyre size be? I thought they were a 225/50 and a 245/
Homer
There should be a Toyota sticker inside the drivers side door slam panel that states the size. I just took a look at mine and it says: 225/50ZR16 245/50ZR16 Edited to add - I've found F1's are very cost effective and can be had for peanuts from Bracknell Tyre's. They can get daily orders of any tyre size.

For the rears my old NA had 245/50/16's recommended as per the sticker inside the drivers door, my new one has 245/45/16 on the sticker.... 225/50/16's total diameter = 631.4mm 245/45/16's total diameter = 626.9mm 245/50/16's total diameter = 651.4mm
how_supra
so is it okay to run 50 on the front and 45 on the rear? The two front tyres don't match either (different direction of tread if that makes sense).

I used Bracknell tyres before I wrote off my original set of wheels .... (recalls the event as if it was yesterday)

The two front tyres don't match either (different direction of tread if that makes sense). yep fine, stock 17" wheels run 235/45 and 255/40 ......... its the 16's with the same '50' ratio fornt and back that are away from the norm..... as for the mismatched fronts a picture will help to 100% clarify but it doesn't sound good! Are they the same type/brand? but with the directional tread the wrong way on one side? Have a look for arrows on the tyres sidewall that indicate the direction of rotation and see if it matches the way it is actually rotating! JustGav
If you want me to go into work tomorrow and make sure we are ordering the right tyres i can. You want 245 45 16 tyres for the rear and leaving the fronts as they are. Let me no if that is right and i think we should be able to get them in for tomorrow in either conti or bridgestone. Phil. how_supra
245 45 16s rears 225 50 16s fronts seem to be the consensus and I'm happy to go for that. May as well get four new tyres in light of the directional thingey (thanks Ian and Scooter) What time do you open in the morning Phil? My very wonderful colleague is following me down there and taking me back to work and then back later during the day..... Small world huh?
JustGav
Indeed it is a small world. We open at 8.30. I dunno if we can get a matching set of four for tomorrow. The tyres I think we can get tomorrow for the back aren't available for the fronts tomorrow. It's something we'll have to find out for sure tomorrow. how_supra
Well the backs are really desperate if truth be told. The fronts are as soon as Just to reconfirm as I performed a typo above 245 45 16 rear 225 50 16 front Cheers guys !
JustGav
Pop down tomorrow then and we'll see what we can get for the backs and then match up the fronts as best possible with make and tread when we can get them. Phil
