Airbag removal then steering wheel

Justin

Recommended Posts

Can someone tell me step by step how to take the airbag off with normal tools. Looks a bit tricky on MKIV.com.

ie step one do this, step 2 do this. etc Don't want to blow my head off but do want to fit my new boss and wheel.

Cheers

Justin

Yeh just make sure the battery has been disconnected, i think our airbags book says leave for about half hour first, but never done that, just don't have your head in front when you remove it!, then i think there screwed on at the back of the wheel should feel a couple of holes at the back.

Once you got the bag off undo the nut, but don't take it right off, then pull on the wheel till it breaks seal with the column (not literally!) then undo nut and lift off.

Iv'e found using your knees helps to remove it too as well as pulling on it!

hope this helps..

is your stock wheel 3 or 4 spoke?

Will do mate. It's actually a piece of cake when you know how. I've done it now. See pic. I'll post up step by step asap. It was a 4 spoker.

Scooby - I've wired it up to the alarm so if someone trys to nick the car they get their head or hands blown off.

Seriously I don't know what to do with it. Might take it into a field, connect it to a battery, retire to a distance and set it off on video camera. Could be a laugh.:D
