I have never heard so much bullshit (that's a lie, I read threads here regularly).

 

You have pretty much decided that a car is at fault regardless of anything. You know where the car was hit, where the biker appeared from, what speeds both vehicles where going and in what direction from a few lines of text from somebody who didn't see it themselves?

 

ohhh kaaaay. Do me a favour chaps, don't ever be a jury for me if I go to court for anything will you?

I encounter more bikers driving like loons than car drivers...and what's the ratio of cars to bike?

But if you took all the cars out and we only were allowed to ride bikes there's be no traffic jams and no more accidents on the road. Then it really would be a wonderful wonderful world :D

I sorry, let me get this right, remove cars and accidents go away??!?! HAHAAHAA!! I have seen a group of 4 bikers crash at 20mph, stuff 3 bikes, 2 broken bones... all by themselves, no car involved...

 

My opinion on this comes down to what really happened... if he heard the bike from hi flat, and his flat is where the photo was taken from, then I am going with the fact that he was doing silly speeds.

 

I am pretty sure that the police can find out what sort of speed was involved, with the amount of damage caused, other vehicles, cameras, etc.

dont all bikes have to have there headlights on ??? if so why didnt the driver see him. im over cautious at junctions cause i was once a biker .

 

No they don't.

 

And in fact - some past studies have shown that if they do, drivers are much more likely to mis-judge their speed / distance.

 

Having said that, I always used to drive with my lights in. I tried it with / without and found that people pulled out on me a lot more with them off.

all new bike have there lights on all the time,, older models don't. but you don't have to have them on. lets just hope the people involved are ok ..

Whenever I drive, my lights go straight on. That and a BOV help to get more attention on the road... Could BOV sales go up if the safety side was pushed more. Strangely, have had a BOV save me previously... Car pulled out in traffic, with me cruising down a lane to turn left, and this car just pulled out. Took my foot of accelerator to brake, BOV sounded other car braked....

Reminds me of this girl who asked for a lift in my MR2T a few years ago, she missed her bus to take her to a job interview, I asked her why she didn't drive "oh I'm an anti-capitalist so I think cars are moraly wrong". "Get out then love..."

Apoligies Lewis, my sentence was given for the fact that someone pulled out infront of another person from a junction. Be it a bike, a car or an old person in one of those mobility cars, if you pull out infront of someone and either don't look (which alot of people do lately) or don't do it properly in a safe fashion then your 100% in the wrong.

As said previously, can's on bikes sound alot louder than cars. I can hear bikes on the A40 and i live 8/9 miles away. Does that mean obvioulsy they are going too fast??

 

 

What i read from posts on here there are a few who are anti bike. That's fine, personnally im anti smart cars. I don't know the road to be honest. I don't know if it's a straight road, a slight bend or twists and turns. I don't even know if it's a dual carriagway or a country lane. Fact is still fact, someone has pulled out infront of someone else. Untill someone knows different the one pulling out is at fault, end of.

No need to apologise to me bud, I was speaking generally not at anyonein particular. I know exactly where you were coming from. Whilst it is easy to blame a car driver (because 90% of them are too blind/unfocussed/old/stupid to be on the road), sadly it is also some bikers who give the rest a bad name and so to get into a fault debate is just counter productive really.

 

Like I said before, I just hope all concerned make a full recovery, who was at fault is something for the police to worry about. I have seen two accidents (one where the biker died) which were the fault of the bike rider:

1) biker looked right but had already started speeding up for the overtake, lorry in front braked as slip road traffic pulled out quickly - biker stain on the rear quarter of the truck

2) crossing junction (DC) 4x4 turning left, flashed a car waiting to pull out, biker was impatient and over took going into the car pulling out - biker stain on front wing.

 

Anything can be anybody's fault and quite often is simply bad luck on the part of one or the other. I tend to feel naturally more sorry for a biker as IF they are involved in an accident regardless of fault, they tend to come off the worse for it. Sadly, it comes with the territory.

ha ha well said..... only thing i will say about bikes is.......i hate it when they sit right on my ass in my blind spot, that really pisses me off big time. if i knocked somebody off like that i would have no sympathy for them what so ever.

 

Well said bud. I conspicuously ride where I know the driver will see me, if the driver is paying attention that is. Reason why most drivers are taken by surprise is that they're too busy on the phone sitting in their little castle's (cars) thinkin' they own the fu***n' road.

Rant over and this does not apply to the tossers on the designer scooters that flit in, out inside outside all the time. Any driver would lose track of those idiots positions.

Bikes do tend to sound like they're going faster than they are. But then again they're usually going a lot faster than the speed limit....

 

Wanna view some of the vids on this forum mate. Ain't just bikers who do some speeding.:)

I didn't read it like that. I think it was the assumption made by Supra-Lover and others that because a bike was in collision with a car in the circumstances, that there was an assumption that it must have been the car drivers fault, not the bikers. And bacuse of that assumption, it's been picked up on, that's all.

 

I'm not anti bike, I used to love riding, and miss it occasionally, but everytime you go out on it on the road then it's a lottery wether you get to your destination in one piece. The amount of near misses I had because of errors I made or other drivers made i'd lost count of, but they sure did remind you of the fact you're still alive.

 

In a collison, generally someone is to blame. But it should never be assumed just because its car vs bike, that it's the car drivers fault. These things have to be investigated, and nowadays, a collision which is fatal or near fatal is dealt with as a potential crime scene and is thoroughly investigated by professionals (collison investigators) who are generally qualified to a degree level in their field to establish the facts.

 

Whilst I can see from a bikers point of view that it's easy to always point the finger of blame at a car driver when there is a collision involving a bike, it might not be necessarily so.

 

My thoughts are with all of those concerned.
