DamanC
Following on from Lewis's post in supra chat (nice post btw if your reading this) its got me thinking. The topic in question Waxing v Polishing Discuss.
JustGav
Polishing is the process of removing a layer of the material or an oxide from it. Wax will then put a protective layer over the top of the freshly exposed material.
peter richards
gav poilshing will only remove , the likes of bad oxidisation , and slight defects , if the polish has cutting compounds in it , i have both , but if you dont activate the cut it acts as just a polish . then i have just polish no cutting at all in it , easy on easy off . dont want to contradict lewis thread it is very good
Pete
So you're meant to wax after polishing? I never hear of anyone using wax nowadays. What do people use?

peter richards
agree pete but each to their own , i use as you know nielsens , and autoglym , both are polishes cutting if required or not , depends on how you use them , and both with superb durability . ive just started using a product called duragloss , first immpressions are very good . as for wax dont see the need
Bobbeh
Pete, I use the Meguiars NXT Gen stuff for waxing. Always best to apply on a clean, polished and clayed car though.. then its so easy to apply. Does the job too with regard to keeping the car clean and watching the water bead off it when it rains.

I do the claying and polishing and that lasts ages, water beading etc anyway, so I've never bothered to go that extra step. Only time I did was when I used AutoGlym followed by the Hard Resin stuff on the black Supra that was great.
colsoop
I always wax as i find that it gives the best possible shine and wet look. A lot of polishes have a bit of carnauba in them so avoid the need to wax you pays yer money you takes youe choice
