V
I may need a new one. My car was registered in Japan Nov 2000 and now done 37k – is it normal for one of these to go in this time? I know very much it depends on how its driven, but just broadly speaking. What are my options, cost and what power can they take for everyday use. Standard Toyota one? Plus any difference between UK and Jspec? Others? My cars standard apart from a cat back exhaust (300bhp at the hubs), but am looking to go no more than hybrids in the near future. My cars still under warranty, so I’m looking at going down that route. Any thoughts? Many thanks Stephen V
Zed
That's quite early for a clutch to go but it depends very much on how the previous owner drove it. I got a Chris Wilson clutch which is a modified standard Toyota clutch, which means it's just as light as standard, I also needed a new flywheel at the time. I've coverd about 6k miles since it was fitted, and my car is running at 1.15 bar, although usually I have it set at 0.85 bar, and the clutch is fine, I hope not to have to replace it before selling the car, even if that's in a year or two. Hope this helps!!:flame Dev
V
Thanks Zed. CW is on list my list of people to call I assume theres no real difference of feal & noise from that of the standard one? I'm now reading all the posts on clutch's. Alex
CW's feature's an uprated pressure plate. Considering Ian's stock one lasted on his Hybrid machine for many 1000's of miles I would have thought a CW one would be just right.
Gaz Walker
Or the RPS Street Sport is an option Regards, Gaz.
V
Alex, Your first thought about my revs on my car might be right :( I'm seeing Ian Sunday to have a look to make sure. Are you at the meet too? Gaz, You have an e-mail soon. PS. got to be refined. none of this clanking about. Basically an uprate stock one. Grazer
I've got a Helix paddle clutch which does the job but can be quite rattley at low revs.

Dragonball
You might like to check this http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25581&highlight=clutch Check out the comments section for the low down on these1 I can get them all m8 - but the RPS is favourite as per Chris' car IMHO! nigelc
My stock just went on a '98 JSpec with 39,000 miles. Paul Whiffin replaced it with an RPS Street Sport and I've done little under a thousand miles on it, and it is fantastic. Nice firm pedal, but not noticeably heavier than the stock. Highly recommended!
Ian C
I've got the RPS street and it's great. You very quickly get used to the extra pedal pressure and other than that it's stock-style. However a normal clutch would be fine for Steve I think, as Alex says, my stocker lasted 32k miles while I owned it, maybe even the full 50k miles on the clock. But then I don't slip it much Too much mechanical sympathy, me So unless it's peanuts to get an improved one over a stock one, I'd go for stock. Your car is pretty unmodified isn't it, Steve? And don't buy anything until after Sunday -Ian
