Paul -C-
My air con has been pretty poor lately, never blowing out really cold or really hot air, so I've booked it in to get the gas filled up. Anyone had this done? It's costing £60 at the local Toyota garage, which seems a bit steep, but they said they have to get a company in to do it. toyotasuprauk
I've had mine done for about £48 at the beginning of summer. I wouldnt bother with Toyota personally. Just go straight to the person they use, it will only be a mobile van with Toyota's commission.
suprafish
had mine done makes a real difference, had someone come round to do it, i'll find you a number, think he will only do glos though!
green_dragon
I had mine done at Toyota, £50+VAT. Even though it worked before (just smelt fusty), it made a real difference, Smelt nice afterwards too. And they washed the car:)
Steve Cargill
That seems a pretty good price to me. One thing to check is that they just don't pump in more gas, but also add the oil. If they don't do that you'll be getting a hefty bill for a new compressor in a while.
Paul
I just paid £100 cash when mine was in for it's paint job They said that their guy first runs a red dye through to check for leaks and worn seals, he then disinfects by putting something else through, then he renews all the gas, Works great now and don't smell of wee Maybe I was skanked though? Chris Wilson
The oil is carried with the refrigereant as a mist, so losing refrigerant means losing oil. It's put in bu weight in a new system, butt as it's all but impossible to get all the oil out of a used system most places just add *SOME* more, as a bit too much is far better than not enough. It's also the reason you should run A/C weekly, to didtribute the oil around the system. The Yanks rarely have A/C trouble as they use it daily, as they have been brought up on it and they appreciate how to use it in cold weather, too. We tend to have trouble, mainly through lack of use and seals and compressors drying up.
Zed
How should you use it in cold weather? With the temp on warm? Cheers.
oxygene
I use a place in Tooting called TACS, they have looked at all my cars with AC. They charge £50 for a re-gas, but that also includes a leak test and compressor check.

You need to run diagnostic as this sounds like a fault beyond air con if you have little heat as well. Do this before you get the air con checked. Could be something as simple as your heat sensor in the dash needing a clean. Very few car dealerships touch air con, most get specialists in and then stick a £20on the bill for making the phone call.
Chris Wilson
Originally posted by Zed How should you use it in cold weather? With the temp on warm? Cheers. Yes, hot warm or cold, the evaporator unit behind the dash removes condensation from the air, try it on hot demist, A/C on, you will be AMAZED how much quicker it will demist a steamed up car. Think of the fun you can have steaming it up for test purposes, too!

Think of the fun you can have steaming it up for test purposes, too! I always leave the A/C on all the time, the car never mists up and stay cool fresh and dry - it's fantastic. I think it's one of those things that once you've had it and used it properly you'd never get a daily car without it. LOL at testing, but what if it demists too quickly, that would give the shoppers at Tesco's car park something to talk about
