Paul
Done a search, got some views from them already but have to ask as I'm about to buy a new laptop that has Vista premium OS, it isn't available with XP. Varied views on the net, mate of mine says it's crap (yet hasn't got or used it to my knowledge) but the way I read it is that I should be OK as the new laptop has 1gb of ram, 100gb hard drive and has a duo 2 processor. Most problems I've read about relate to upgrading on an existing PC of older spec. Any comments cause this sort of stuff bugs me, I'm buying not one but two of these laptops with Vista loaded so can't afford to get it wrong really. Thanks, Paul
Jake
FWIW I've just given up with Vista and gone back to XP. The piss-poor driver support meant that I couldn't use one of my HDs and the insane memory use is annoying too. I had to upgrade from 1gb to 2gb just to make it bearable. The UAC is irritating as well. I may give it another go after the first service pack comes out. Hopefully driver support will be better by then. Paul
Bugger, the laptop I'm after doesn't come with XP yet it fits the bill everywhere else:( I'm guessing that they must test it with Vista, after all it's supplied as part of the package so if it keeps playing up then surely they have problems? The only other thing is to go with it and if I have massive grief then swap them over to XP, not got a copy so not sure what that'll cost. I bloody hate all the things that trip you up just when you've made the decision of what PC to buy:( Paul
Daston
The question is what do you want from the PC? If it is just office email internet and a few films then Vista is fine if games is in mind then dont go with it as 90% of the older stuff wont work

Daston
Vista should be fine with that stuff as all the drivers and crap will be on there from the shop so you shouldnt have the worry of updating them.

Rico2006
Ive been running Vista Ultimate now for months and have no problems to report at all. It took a little while to get it how i like it but thats the same with any PC. You can get OfficeXP working on Vista with a few little tweaks. A Laptop with Vista supplied will be fine - i bought 6 pcs for £200 each the other day from PC world ( all Vista ) and they worked a treat out of the box. Pete
You can use the Vista license to cover you for an XP install. That's legal. You can ring up MS for a key.
Greenauto
Here's a better Vista question! Why is it so cack to use. My dad bought my mum a new Dell laptop running Vista and its been nothing but problems. Did they not test the system before launch?
