Miguel
As a mater of fact i'm looking for this also but in red so i will jump on the question train if you dont mind that is?
dandan
I don't think red is much of a problem from what I've found. Almost any colour is possible but apparently clear is a little more specialized. Hopefully someone will have some useful info.............. Miguel
For ref; how much heat can it take ? lets say for a rocker cover.
Lazarus
I'd like to know if it can be used on rims and how much?, need a wheel refurb.
dandan
Not sure off the top of my head Mig, but I don't think a rocker cover would be too much temperature wise. Whether or not there are different grades I don't know - quite possibly.

dandan
A lot of the ones I've spoken to shy away when you mention clear finish, maybe I'm ringing the wrong ones. I know of one company in Germany that can do it though!

V
I work for one of/the the largest UK architectural glazing companies with our own powder coating plant. Clear is not a problem (i've got a metal alien clear powder coated ) , its just un-common and you have to buy a bag of powder which is about £80+. I'll check the heat it is stable at. Paint manufacuters: These 2 are the biggest/best: http://www.synthapulvin.co.uk/ http://www.interpon.co.uk Others: http://www.omegacolours.com/ (same as synthapulvin but cheaper) http://www.hbfuller.com They will be able to give you a list of approved applicators, although you might find it cheaper from a smaller local company. Heres a few applicators to get going with: Barley Chalu 01953 602 771 Metallic Protectives 01926 491 811 Metalion 0208 965 4677 Supreme 01203 644 120 Maybe able to get something sprayed up at our works but i'll have to check, as we run batches and to do a one off small item is a pain - hence why most applicators probably shy away from it. I'll post back with the temp. Thought about anodising??? Regards Stephen
V
Sorry I was talking bollox. You cant get ppc in a clear, well at least not in an architectural finish. Partly because when you pre-treat the aluminium before application it goes a shity yellowy green colour which most architects dont like plus the pigment is used to offer part of the protection. The polyester powder coat is baked on at 200 degrees, but is guaranteed upto 120, although once set it wont melt again, but it does burn/char. At 200 degrees you should be ok, but near 300 it will start to discolour and eventually burn off (class 0 spread of flame – ie. it doesn’t catch fire) Depends on what you want to finish but I would suggest Plasticote Clear Enamel which I think is ok for upto 400 degrees I think, and they even do a stove enamel for 600 degrees. B&Q sell it. God knows what myt Alien is finsihed in then Regards Stephen V

Scarface GTti
My rocker cover on my GTti is powder coated blue. Serious problem on that car is the high under bonnet temperature and my rocker cover has been fine and has not tainted or anything. The only problems with wheels is that eventually they start to bubble up from underneath. When they`re painted you`d just blast them and repaint. Once something has been powder coated its a nightmare to blast off again. I gave up and got another set of wheels.
