UK Immigration

Hoping someone knows something about this.

The background:

I was born here, but grew up in South Africa, no issue, I have a UK passport.

But my fiancee is South African, has a South African passport, etc. Got her a 2 year Settlement visa to come here and see if we could live here.

So about 1 - 2 months ago we put in an application for indefinite stay for her.

Today we get a letter back stating that according to her passport, she entered the UK on X date and the immigration officer granted her indefinite leave to remain. (BTW this letter cost £350)

Couple of points:

* The first thing I notice is the letter is dated August 2002?? WTF??

* Mels visa has an expiry date on it, so therefore does not have indefinite leave to remain.

* They have her date of entry into the country wrong

And their office is now closed for the weekend.

Any ideas apart from wait for Monday and call them? Anyone had something similar?

Thats the plan, I am just shocked at how many details they got wrong on this one page reply, and the fact that it cost £350.

Crikey. They opened up an existing letter and forgot to actually change it before printing & posting. That's poor!

I think that we may have just pulled a major NUMPTY move. The visa has a valid to and from date. Then a little lower down it says "Indefinite leave to enter the UK." Then there is the Immigration stamp that activates the visa.

Is the valid to and from date, the period in which the visa needs to be activated?

If it is, then I am an absolute DUMBASS!!!
