garetheves
Thinking of buying a projector when we move to use in the study for watching TV, (tend to watch more TV on the computer than we do in the lounge) and playing consoles through. Anyone recommend the best place to buy one from??

colsoop
I borrowed one off Ray for a while last year i miss it I projected a 70" image of Gran turismo on to my wall, it was fantastic especially while driving the nurburgring in the Supra while sat in a Supra seat. (i know im sad ) If the room is small make sure you check the noise level from the projector as some can be very loud.
DaveK
I thought they were pretty loud - but I also thought the bulbs cost a fortune when they need replacing?
colsoop
They quote around 3 - 5000 hours for the bulb life and most come with a 3 year warranty these days anyway. I think they are best used as occasional home cinema / games use.

Charlotte
Mike wants one in our dining room, I'm not sure how much longer I can talk him out of it.
Supragal
yeah I have a tv for normal tv and cinema for films/games. That way the bulb life is extended, plus it's pointless watching tv that size and it means you have to be in darkness all the time. Just check out the price of bulbs before you buy. Anyway, main point - buy a what hifi mag or such like and read reviews etc. You need to be careful about what type you get lcd or dlp as some people experience a 'rainbow' when they watch dlp images. They will list suppliers and go demo some, make sure you test 'dark' films like the crow or most horrors. Watching disney stuff will make it look great so make sure you take your own dvds along to see how well it deals with projecting black.

Charlotte
Not very long at all it seems. Anyway - don't be a spoilsport! Boys need their toys! We already have a perfectly good tv which we hardly ever watch. Dining room is for eating, not watching tv. In a similar way the bedroom is only for sleeping and not watching tv which is why I refuse to have a tv in there too.

Charlotte
You're just a bundle of fun aren't you? It's all about being practical. (That and the fact that his consoles take up half of our lounge anyway).
Kittyclaws
Mate of mine said that he went round a friend of his who had one set up with his PS2, they played tombraider on the side of his house, pretty awsome by all accounts
DaveK
It's all about being practical. (That and the fact that his consoles take up half of our lounge anyway). I see the problem. You need to start thinking that our consoles take up half the lounge. If you had that attitude, you'd want to play them on a bigger TV.

Oh and I suppose seeing as I bought all but one of them they are technically mine too.
DaveK
Oh and I suppose seeing as I bought all but one of them they are technically mine too. You've just gone up in my estimation. When you buying him a PS3 then?
Charlotte
When you buying him a PS3 then? He doesn't really want one at the moment, not really until some better games come out anyway. (He wants a driving day for his birthday now).

Hmm - I think I'd believe that more if he said it! Although - he has a point. There isn't really very much.
DaveK
(He wants a driving day for his birthday now). My g/f told me at the weekend that she was planning that for mine - a day with a Ferrari. But I told her I'd rather book a trackday and take my own car, so she's taking me to Prague instead.
Gaz Walker
so she's taking me to Prague instead. Your g/f has just gone up in MY estimation now too
