Kit car insurance?

Does anyone know of a kit car insurance specialist?

I'm thinking of buying a westfiled within the next couple of weeks and would like to check out the insurance costs.

Do they frown upon Q plates? or do is not matter?

All help appreciated, cheers.

Sureterm Direct were the cheapest for me. About 130 quid a year for my Tiger.

If you do decide to go ahead, would you be so kind to use me as a reference? If I give you my policy number I think I get some money off as a referrer. :D

Thanks Pete, i was hoping you would pipe up.

I will definately get a quote from them and ask about the referer thing.

The model i'm looking at is the Westfield SEi, hopefully with a toyota 4age in from a mk1 MR2.

What kind of money is that for sale at then? ive got a feeling it will be miles over my lowly budget.

dont wanna come across as a hi jacker but on the subject of kit cars what sorta performance do you get out of the bike powered ones? would love to own one but not having a garage doesnt really help

They're rapid, but lack torque and require EVERYTHING to be taken off in the quest for weight saving. Proper reverse boxes cost a freakin' fortune too.

I thought about it, but a bike engine won't last as long and you have to really make it scream to get the performance.

Footman James were the cheapest a few years ago for my Westy Seight.

Speaking of which its up for sale soon if anyone's interested. Only 800 miles since build!!! Thats an average of 80 miles a year

Its a 3.5 litre vitesse injection engine (new) with loads of power (for the weight).

was looking into turning my MR2 turbo into a F355 back when I was an idiot, and found insurance on kit cars is very cheap, Still like to have a kit car but not a 355 anymore as I think they look rubish!

Had a couple of Westfields and always used Adrian Flux.

Prices OK and when I had a huge fire they paid out with no probs and no premium increase (they also paid out on my second one when I had a medium fire)... :Pling:

Sold my last one last summer...:bang:

First one burned out completely in my garage (the garage went up first - think it was garage wiring / our dog - who escaped).

The second was caused by a very small leak from the carbs (twin 40's) which we think dripped onto either wiring or hot engine.

Was sat in it at work when it went up with my salesman who I was going to treat to a "blast" his face was a treat as he tried to figure out how to get out of a four point harness with flames coming out of the bonnet... !

He's not good in a panic situation... !

All good fun :Pling:
