T70 Conversion

UK Supra TT

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm in the middle of a T70 turbo conversion on my supra, I have a problem in that I can't find the correct size V-Band clamp for joining the turbo to the down pipe, the pipe seems to be about 3.5Inch but I can't find one in that size and 3Inch is defo too small, any one know where I can get one?

Also there is what looks like a temperature prope that went into the origonal twin turbo manifold, do I need this on the single turbo setup, I only ask because it is an odd shape and i would have to get a coustom plate welded to the exhaust down pipe to put it in.

Last question, I think my ECU is going to be a bit upset about me removing half its solenoid valves and sensors that are involved in the twin turbo setup, can I just trick the ECU into thinking there still there by putting resistors in there place?

Sorry for all the questions guys

Cheers

Try Terry S at Vortex or Envy

Sounds like a Lambda or EGT probe to me, and yes you would be wise to fit it

Your ECU will be all over the place controlling the uprated fuelling!! you have got injectors going in haven't you??

get yourself an E-manage Blue and let Ian C on here work his magic or alternativly a standalone AEM or similar and take it to turbofit to map

I've got an emanage blue, and 640cc RC racing injectors, i'm thinking about running two sets of injectors though cos i want to get a T88 on there when its done (Just saving the money lol) I don't think the 640cc's could supply enough for the T88

The T88 will need some serious fuel, so extra injectors may be needed....I would advise going out in a T88 first, there a different ball game, a lot of members have downsized from a t88and realised the drive and midrange power is a lot nicer to live with

Well the car will not really be used as a road car, but i hear what your saying, my plan was to keep the standard UK injectors and have my RC racing injectors which would in theory give arounf 1200cc per cylinder, more than enough for the application (i think) I had 880cc injectors but sold them since i though I could have better results at low RPM with smaller injectors and I can run all 12 on the emanage

Ahhhh ok.....you can run extra injectors in this way but I would opt for larger drop in's if it were me that suit the turbo, your 880's you sold would have been perfect for the job

Yeah it's a crappy xs power turbo, hence my want to get rid of it ASAP for a turbo technics turbo, idealy I wont even run the car up on the T70, just need more money lol

I thought if i ran 2 sets of injectors I could manage the low rpm range better since i wouldn't be having to run the big injectors at a rediculously low duty, is this incorrect then?

Staged injectors is actually still a valid fuelling solution. However the E-Manage Blue will only batch fire all six at once, you won't get any nice sequential effects. That may or may not be a problem, I would have though packaging a second set of injectors and the fuel rail for them would be the trickiest job, where are you planning on putting them?

well i've got an after market manifold, the inlet for the ports is longer than standard and i'm planning on putting them there, just behind the standard position, I've seen similar setups on racing setups, I'm glad someone doesn't think im completely mad! I'm planning on running an AEM ECU eventually

I think you are partially mad for doing this in stages rather than all in one go, but that's your choice :) You also mention ditching the T70, which in my snobby opinion is a very good move, especially as you'll probably replace it with a turbo that will have a standard V-band fitment. So you aren't that mad.

You can get a lot of power out of a single, some injectors sized around 650cc, and an E-Manage Blue so do that and see how you get on before going mad with old skool T88's and staged batch fire injectors.

Yeah, i'd like to see if i can get the car running on the T70, just for peice of mind really, then spend the big bucks on a decent turbo and stick the T70 on ebay or something, i wanna build it up stage by stage cos im still learning, and i don't want to change too much at once and for it all to go horribly wrong and out of control, which i think is wise at the mement
