scooby_doo_do
Running office 2003. I need to send an email out but i don't want anyone to be able to reply to it. Any ideas? I thought maybe set up an account on the exchange server, send the email and then delete the account, but there must be an easier option to do this. Any ideas? Thanks
carl0s
Can you make outbound tcp port 25 connections? If so, find out the mail server responsible for the recipient's domain (nslookup; set type=mx; example.com), note down the server with the highest priority (lowest number). Create an account in outlook, with that server set as the outgoing mail server. Don't worry about incoming servers, user/pass etc. Set your email address to whatever you want - [email protected] send the email. Provided the receiving smtp server doesn't perform any validation checks on the email address or you'll be ok. If it does, then it'd only be the domain part that's checked, so do something like '[email protected]' if you want. They might check against a DNS blacklist for 'dialup users' (actually just end users), in which case you'd want to do the following... Alternatively, if you know your ISP, find out the address of their SMTP relay - i.e the SMTP server that they provide to you for exactly this use. That'll be the server that the Exchange server is forwarding to.
Branners
can you not just set the 'have replies sent to' in the options to a dead email address and so when they reply it doesnt go anywhere? JB

JB Or that I was assuming he wanted to remain somewhat anonymous.
Branners
indeed, if somebody cuts and pastes the outbound email address then they could reply to it. As you say, depends how anonymous they want to stay. JB

carl0s
Temporarily change the email address in your own client too? You could normally but with an Exchange server, the addresses are set on the server, not on the client.
