SimonR
Any recommendations for a web hosting company? I’m not too fussed about disk space or bandwidth but they must provide Perl and MySQL – and have seriously fast servers. I’m looking at processing SQL queries that will involve a complex statement interrogating about 20,000 records each with approx 50 fields. These will be real-time queries so no slouchy servers will do!
michael
Have you considered the offer Lewis is doing for members? It's in his sig... I presume he can also tailor something to your needs.
Thorin
I'm using the Linux Developer package from FastHosts http://www.fasthosts.co.uk/hosting/linux-developer/ and can highly recommend them. I believe the MySQL is limited to a single database 150MB max, unless you pay extra though.
Henk
I use FastHosts too, never had a problem, a well sorted company!

SimonR
I'd found dataflame and that looks attractive. I'll check out fasthosts and I've also PM'd Lewis. Many thanks for the replies.

SupraJames
Yep. Fasthosts rock. Been using them for over 2 years now and not a single problem. Great value for money too! Lucky for you dude. I have been with them 2 months and have had loads of issues, almost weekly my site goes down cause of Fasthosts, usually down to them loosing a load balancing server or one of the DNS's..! Guess you have been lucky.
SMiFFAD
Another vote for fast host, been running a club/forum on them for about 3 years, and rarely get problems. I also have my own private hosting with them for testing/development, never had a problem. (must be user error james ) Used to use ONE and ONE, but they cost slightly more and wont give you one database over 100mb, so we outgrew it and had to go else where (4 separate 100mb ones wasnt any good!) SupraJames
(must be user error james ) Adam, umm not sure how a hosting companies load balancing servers going down could be user error but hey ive only been doing forums for like the last 10 years..! Yes Greg I have spoken direct to Fasthosts about it, and asked for some sort of discount on my monthly bill but nothing, touch wood its been ok for a few weeks now..!! SupraSkunk
Give "x10hosting.com" a try....they are the best free host there is you get everything you will ever need.....for free.... and i've been with them for 2 years and i've not had one problem check this link to see the different packages they offer they also do paid hosting but i see no point as you get so much with the free ones. http://img293.imageshack.us/my.php?image=freehostingplanscg3.jpg
Guest Power-GT
Been with DATAFLAME for over a year, only one problem when they bounced the server..... Site was back up within an hour..... Plus any essential work they always do at stupid-o'clock so it creates minimul impact.
SMiFFAD
Adam, umm not sure how a hosting companies load balancing servers going down could be user error but It was a joke jimbob, hence the There must be something wrong with your hosting though, i know atleast five sites hosted with them, UJCC, S:M, mine and a few others ive done and they rarely have any problems. Only one ive experienced is when a SQL server falls over or reboots, and it doesnt often affect for more than 10 mins. Get them to move your site to another server? SimonR
I'd pretty much decided on Fasthost but in light of SupraJames' experience I will have a rethink. Outages on load balancing servers shouldn't present a problem with service availability and DNS is hard to get wrong if you know what you are doing. Maybe it's poor Change Control (guess what I do for a living).

SupraJames
Change control Simon..? What I used to do for JP Morgan but gave it all up lol. Fasthosts are ok, maybe I have just been unlucky, The SQL server i was on blew a disk in the first week and then they lost 1 load balancing server, 2 days laster lost another one..! But as I said touch wood everything has been ok for a while. Their customer service is very good though, 24/7 support and usually not on hold long till I get to speak to someone, email updates provided as well. Adam, S:M used to have issues with hosting now and again, and still does as when I have had issues with my site have checked S:M and thats had probs to. SMiFFAD
Adam, S:M used to have issues with hosting now and again, and still does as when I have had issues with my site have checked S:M and thats had probs to. Seems to be very server specific then, as i know UJCC is on a diff server to SM, and rarely has problems. I admit im rarely on S:M to notice! SupraJames
Yeah it must be, Simon please dont let me put you off Fasthosts, there is some plus points to them honest lol..! But I guess its all down to personal choice at the end of the day. I just went with them due to previous dealing and there easy to use interfaces with MySQL/Webmail etc etc

SimonR
Just in case this is of interest to anyone, I sent emails to Dataflame and fasthosts asking the same question to see how long they would take to respond. Dataflame answered my question within 30 minutes. Fasthosts have not responded after 13 hours. That's the clincher for me.
