It's a pity they couldn't get the auto function to work on the sequential system though. Just enter in whatever psi you want. Jobs a good 'un.

I still don't see why it's not possible to have a motor controlling the wastegate, controlled by a pressure sensor in the manifold, or even from the turbine housing. That way wouldn't it be theortically possible to hold the wastegate open all the time and effectively run lower boost than stock? Something it seems beyond manufacturers of current boost control systems.

Rambling on now. Sorry. ;)

Went for a good spin tonight with Fiancee's Dad who loves cars and used to Rally Mini's years ago, loved every minute of the car, he thought it took off amazingly, i had it set to 65 and a gain of 10, was around 1.2 all the time but went to 1.35 peak in 5th gear, that seems a good setting till i get the Powermeter.

Scramble mode, whats that? I'll have to read up on this i think!

The SBCID has a scramble setting in it to give additional boost for a set period, so you could possibly have it scramble when you first launch the car to give more boost and then it wont spike so badly at the top end. I never quite understood how it worked, it seems a little bit strange the way it does it.

The scamble mode effectively gives you an extra boost setting for a couple of seconds.

say you've got channel 1 set to a moderate 15 psi, and channel 4 (which is set as your scramble channel) set to 18 psi. When you floor is the boost controller will switch to channel 4 for a pre-set amount of time, and then revert back to channel 1.

Hope that helps

Ok,

After having to reset the SBC last week because it wasn't controlling boost at all, all's working fine, except I didn't record my settings so have had to start all over again. :stupid:

Anyway I've now got the following settings:-

Set 58

Gain 10

This gives me initial boost of 17.8 psi which soon drops to 17 psi.

Is the drop a mini boost spike? If I decrease the gain this should get rid of this yeah? Even it just means it peaks at 17. I can then wind it back up on the set.

Thanks in advance.

FWIW guys I always had the gain on my Blitz controller set at 20. Never had an issue. Then just play with the set point.

this does raise I question I never quite answered.

Should I be mapping the boost controller so that it hits its maximum boost as quickly as possible and then tops out at that boost or should I be mapping it to boost up the that boost level and just hit it and then come down again on a gear change?

we you can see I always used the first method, but I suppose it's a horses for course, trial & error type thing.

I have mine set to 65 and 10, till 5th gear the most i get is 1.2 bar but as soon as 5th gear comes it shoots to 1.4, strange that, will this effect the turbo or blow it up? I'm running a FMIC. Or is this normal in the high gears?

Paul you will make more boost the higher the gear. You should have an alarm setting to bring it back down if it over shots. Sustained overboosting may cause damage.

I have set my limiter to 50, does this sound ok Terry? Is there any other way to bring the boost down if it goes too high? If i set the controller to 30 and 5, it runs like stock nearly, 65 and 10 flys! But it's too much at top end, if it would run channel 1 top end and channel 4 bottom that would be great, powermeter time i think!

Paul I can't remember on the SBC ( anyone?) but you need to work out where the settings are in relation to boost first. I know there is a specific setting section for the SBC-id on here somewhere. Have a look there first.

Start at 15 then raise to 20 gain, and say 45 set, but keep a good eye on it, then raise the set if too low, but I wouldn't take the gain much past 20.

terry what exactly does the gain do as i have mine set 65 set 25 gain and hit 1.2 bar. highest its peaked is 1.27bar at 140mph+ so im quite happy to run like this:) .

i also have another setting of set 50 gain 10 and i still hit the 1.2bar so not really sure what the gain setting is supposed to achieve

Spoke to a guy from the US board who recommends a gain of 6 or 7 tops and a ratio of 61 gives between 1.25 and 1.28 bar, he's just ran a 12.5 1/4 mile at 114mph in a Bpu car on street tyres also!!

Does this setting sound good? He says it's quick response and if he turns the gain up anymore it makes the wheels spin too much!

Whats peoples opinions on these settings?

Cheers

that looks very similar to teh setting i use paul and guess what the same time ;)

never tried turning it up anymore so cant comment on the wheels spinning, mine were chepo nasty tyres and they didnt spin apart from 1st to 2nd gear change

From what I understand, the Gain effectively controlls the speed of at which the solenoid reacts. If it's set too high then you'll get boost spikes (apparently).

As I mentioned earlier, my boost rises up to 17.7 and then drops to 17.0 pretty consistantly.

I'm going to try reducing the gain and see if that reduces the "overshoot".

I'll let you know how I get on.

Cheers

Tony
