BEERSHZ
hey guys and gals, my son was out in my clio (spare runaround) he is fully insured to drive it, anyway he got pulled after being followed for a good 4-5 miles, he knew they were there so wasnt doing anything foolish. They asked if he owned it - No mums car they checked it all over said they think car has illegal exhaust, tyres etc they call 2 colleagues to come from 15 miles away to come look it over meanwhile they start bouncing the car checking suspension which does have a slight squeak, the car has reently been mot,d the upshot is they say exhaust is illegal admited it is an adapted new motobike exhaust that was garage fitted passed emissions etc etc one tyre just below limit and they say suspension needs doing!! as wheels very close as it lowered as they had cautioned him they said they couldnt take car to be crushed !!!!! he would get letter to go to court. So what do you think will happen will it be him go to court or me as it my car and what you reckon the charge will actually be no producer given or anything. thanks guys
Lewis
Suprised he didn't get a defect rectification notice, ask one of our resident bobbies if it is likley that a summons will be issued, in my experience they sometimes just try to scare young lads a bit. Get the car sorted (everything they mentioned) and get an invoice for each piece of work. If it does go to court you can demonstrate being unaware of the issues but sorting them out ASAP due to 'concerns raised by the officers' imo
MaveriK
I wonder how many houses were broken into, people mugged etc etc while these officers of the law were dealing with such an obvious and dangerous perp!! Good police work and value for our hard earned taxes
MrRalphMan
I wonder what the opinion would be if it wasn't a members car that was caught (with admittedly unaware with new MOT) defects? What do we say when someone kills someone with defective tyres etc... I am not saying that your son would have done that, but if these spot checks keep the real scum off our roads, then I'm quite happy to submit to them. I guess the cops saw a modified car driven by a young lad and wanted to ensure that evrything was coolio. Just my 2p worth.. Just do what Lewis said and get the defects sorted.. Show the recent MOT (Was it after the exhaust being fitted).. etc

MaveriK
What do we say when someone kills someone with defective tyres etc... What if someone kills someone while doing silly leptons. What if someone throws a fag out of the window and has someones eye out. What if my my spoiler falls off and beheads someone. WHAT IF................... Please, all i was saying that i am a little tired of the motorist (aka easy target) being hit upon for easy cash and arrest figures while other softer crimes (mugging, stealing, dealing) seem to be on the increase. Makes my blood boil and thats just my 2p's worth
Chris and Alana
I agree, you would think that they would have better things to do than to pull young kids driving moded cars. I once got pulled in my Astra estate (first car donated from parents) for wheel spinning and being out of control of my vehicle and having an exhaust that was too loud, and guess what. I never wheel spun at all it was my fan belt that decided to squeek and I didnt even have an exhaust I think they just like picking on kids, what a waste of our money
Lewis
.... and I didnt even have an exhaust ............... maybe that's why they pulled you
Chris and Alana
maybe that's why they pulled you lol, ok I never had a performance exhaust but they even walked around the back of the car before they said that and it was like a pea shooter. (It was only a crappy 1.4 1991 estate)

Pete
I'd just tell the police that you're the owners and you'll deal with it. Talk to the plod on an adult level that issued the warning and see what he's playing at.
