9V Fuel Pump Mod

I'm aware of the 12v Pump mod, and the idea.

I've noticed that my car uses quite a lot of juice when on boost, but seems pretty good off boost.

Turbo 1 starts to spool just after 1800rpm for me, which in my auto equates to about 55mph. 70mph is about 2150rpm.

Does anybody know if the switch from 9v to 12v happens as soon as boost occurs, or is it for example only when a certain amount of boost is present?

If it is the former, I'd be interested in trying to keep the pump down at 9v until say 3500rpm and see if this has any effect on fuel economy.

thoughts anybody?

and does this not cause the engine to run rich when it's off boost (when it should run the pump at 9v)?

I suppose maybe it's all controlled by the injectors?

ask me one on bodywork :p

I've been offered both a Silver and a Black J-spec bumper to replace my uk spec one (got rid of headlamp washers).

What I want to know is, does the bumper *have* to be painted on the car, or can I have it done while it's off?

Storm Blue paint BTW.

There ya go :)

This switches at positive boost or WOT to give the pump more oomph!

You probably dont need it with a stock set up - however if upgrading there is still some debate

The question has been whether the upgraded Walbro pump (which losses 20% effeciency for every one Volt drop from 12V) works better with or without the 12V mod being undertaken

This has never been proved - but I for one have hedged my bets and done the mod - and added a relay to ensure the fuel pump only works when engine is running (so will stop in case of accident etc etc)

You should have this relay - and I have some of Emins prepared and here!

If trying to improve fuel figures - use the right foot - just take it up by 5% when on the accelerator - presto 30MPG (mind you - you will be holding up tractors!0
