E Manage Blue Question

Ive recently recieved my e manage software and was all set for getting my friend to map the car, my problem lies in that my laptop has gone sick and its not likely to be repairable.

Between my family and friends we have plenty of laptops but none have a serial port on the back like my own does.

So i guess my question is do i have to use the lead supplied with the software (meaning i need a new laptop with serial port) or can i use a normal USB - USB cable and use another laptop.

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,

Rob

The blue emanage requires its own dedicated serial lead, as it has some circuitry inside, i think there is one serial to usb converter that works, but you will need to check on the Yahoo emanage sites to check.

Are you sure Ricky? My emb has a usb connector, not serial.

I had an EMB - it has usb on the box - and the official lead is usb to serial on the computer.

I plugged every kind of converter / lead I could to try and get a connection - nada... no joy..

eventually lugged the battle-axe home pc into the garage with a serial port and (after waiting 3 weeks for it to boot) bingo - perfect connection on the first hookup!!

Rob - if you get an answer let us know as I need to hook up to my RLTC and like you don't have a laptop with a serial port!

It may look USB on emanage blue, but it has got a USB converter unit in the foblet at the end..

Something like a USB to serial cable works well, I got a motorola V730 cable and retro fitted a usb style connector for the emanage end.

Some guys use the nokia phone cable as well....
