Tattoo removal on NHS

Drinking, smoking and eating related issues should always be addressed once and once only. As getting a tat removed, well unlucky!!!

You wanted a tattoo you can pay to remove it yourself. Same goes for boob jobs. If you were burn't by fire or attacked and needed plastic surgery fair enough.

Where do we draw the line? When we stand and voice we want.

As for George Best, well he was given his chance.

I can't comment on the tattoo thing but people shouldn't judge in regards to breast enlargement.

My ex-girlfriend had quite literally nothing up top - and I mean nothing. She didn't even need a training bra.

This was a huge issue for her, she had zero self confidence and was depressed because of it. It was her own doctor that referred her to the NHS and they were happy to give her an enlargment. She ended up with a B cup so they looked more natural with her figure.

You wouldn't believe the difference it had on her life. I know some people would just say 'well if she wanted it that much then she would have paid herself'.

But thats just plain ignorance imo, some people genuinely cant afford to spend £3k - £4k at the drop of a hat. And if the NHS are happy to pay then why wouldn't you let them? Would you decline on principle?

Sorry what I was meaning here was the "silly bimbo" type who wanted to go bigger! The point I am trying to mke here is where do we stop. We are told by the government that if we dont pay our taxes, hospitals will suffer yet with all the money poured into it nothing is getting better!! Something is wrong

Oh dont get me wrong, I get infuriated by the idiotic political correctness of this country. The tattoo thing is a joke too, there's so much wrong with this country.

My ex was just an example - just to point out that not everything is so black and white.

For the record though - I didn't particularly like them when she had em done anyway. Of course I never told her that as she was so happy with them. I'm a leg an arse man myself. ;) But I guess how I felt about the whole thing wasn't the issue.

The NHS should deal with accidents etc.

If you drill your finger - its an accident - NHS help please. If you get cancer - accident (fate, whatever) - NHS help please. Etc Etc

However, you to not accidently get a tattoo, eat or drink yourself to death. Let them sort it themselves. (My harsh, but honest opinion on the matter).

I think food is a different matter, there are some people that just put on weight no matter what they eat

U got to look at the drugs think in another way tho, if you dont help they out will they just go and rob someones house?!?! swings and roundabouts that one.

Thats called an accident, tattos arnt' accidents

True, but as I said it is only available (AFAIK) for people who have claimed mental anguish in some way - which could be considered an accident.

YOU decide to pick up a drill and drill a hole in your wall, the ACCIDENT is drilling your finger.

YOU decide to get a tattoo of you missus' name, the ACCIDENT is when she dies in an horrific yachting accident and the pain caused every time you look at your arm causes you to cut yourself to 'bleed the pain' and you can't see yourself ever emerging from this black pit you find yourself in unless you can somehow get the thoughts and memories away from you!!!!!

OK maybe an extreme example, but the act of getting a tattoo is the same as picking up the drill, the rest is fate and if a tattoo NEEDS to be removed for some reason then there's no reason why the NHS shouldn't pay.

Matt, Trev; there are exceptions to every rule, the two you mention are valid exceptions. But it does not cange my opinion on tattoos being removed etc etc as a matter of course.

i dont disagree with you mate, there are more important things to spend money on, thats the bottom line.

Tbourner,

I think your comparisons are slightly extreme, you hardly choose to drill your finger!! lol, think about the end result mate, then realise what your saying!!

I'm just saying everything is a choice, the things in life that cause us to go into hospital are never (well very rarely) chosen, they are accidents!

And IF I'm correct in the fact that you can only get tats removed on the NHS with doctors proof of mental problem or some other reason (ie: not just cos you don't like it any more), then I'm guessing people haven't 'chosen' that either? Hence it's an accident, hence it's allowed on the NHS.
