URGENT: - Coil packs, wires etc

Had a bit of work done on the car and what happened to be what was thought an easy job, turned into a piss take.

 

I changed the sparks yesterday and and took the coil packs out, silly me 2 came out at once instead of doing one then other, however the previous owners have been very careless with the plugs that go into the top of the coil packs, so last night I limped home there was no drive and no boost not even on kick down, my 0-60 was no lie if i tried 30 seconds tbh, the engine warning light was on, engine all lumpy (or missfire) however this happened about 4 miles into my journey but before that the engine was not lumpy but still had no drive whatso ever.

 

events that happened yesterday,

 

1) new walbro fuel pump,

2) new IK24 sparks

3) new smic

 

So question is when the coil packs are out do they go round a special way or does it not matter?

 

the wires that plug into the top do they go in a special way? ie one goes in left side etc, and could this be the cause of the engine having no drive or what could it be? my odo now does not work neither does my cruise, but no electrics were touched at all yesterday.

Not sure TBH but I do remember Peter being very careful about what went where.

 

It might be that yours are knacked. Did they (the connectors) start to come apart when you touched them?

 

If they are fubared then give Martin James a ring and ask if he can do a deal for you.

only the wires at the top are breaking up, I am sourcing some just now to replace them but the actual coil packs look fine and cleanish, Yeah peter was carefull when he done my car and he too was shocked the state they were in but Peter being Peter he was going to replace them and I forgot all about that job and now its came back today when I have had to change the plugs.

The pump was wired up incorrectly at first, as no fitting instructions (one for the MKiv store) but all sorted, the car does not struggle as if its getting starved of fuel as idles perfect now that I have sorted the wires,

 

the sparks, again there is no misfire but unsure what you mean as not the best on technical stuff.

 

everything was taken off the smic, but I think that the grips were not done up tight enough as speaking carbonangel and he had same, put the foot down and nothing there, just a dull rumble from the engine and the boost guage does not go above 0

I did that when I fitted mine. Despite no-one else knowing, I did fell like a bit of a tit! Couldn't be bothered taking it out again so just snipped and re-soldered the wires on top :)

 

Have you checked all your vacuum hoses, btw? If you've knocked one off round the back when you were doing the plugs, that might be why you're not seeing any boost.

Even with a hose completely off the intake system you should have some power, it'd be like a weedy low-compression NA. That sounds a lot more like your ignition isn't working right, and judging by the sounds of the state of your coil pack wires, I'd say it's that.

The wires are on perfect now, but without the plastic covers that like to break away, it was the bottom intercooler pipe that was at fault, the one that goes from the throttle body to the smic, one of the grips was loose and popped off, all sorted and the cars goes a treat, no mis fire and no rough idle.
