Anti Lag TT

Excuse my ignorance on this one - but is it possible to have an anti-lag setup which wouldnt put excess wear on the turbos, or which wouldnt take effect during boost? or is this not pysically possible?

 

Basically, the noise is fun, but i dont want to bugger the blowers!!!

Before considering anti-lag i would price up a "Marrem 909" shaft as these are specially made to handle the 1000+ degrees generated by the "bang-bang" system as it is also know as! (They cost over £1,000 each!) btw..) I had this system on my escort cosworth and wow the noise but it destroyed 3 g/boxes very rapidly until i upgraded to an R&D kitted setup and then sold the car for my R32 GTR...still miss it!

yeah i run the autronic with antilag feature, the guy that set it up for me has repeatidly assured me that it is not doing any damage to the turbos, and that the way he has it set up the ECU looks after the temperatures etc to ensure nothing too dangerous happens!

 

Despite this, we lost one of the impellers in the 2nd turbo a few weeks back, and immidiately i thought it was the dam anti-lag, but the impeller from the turbo is not in the slightest melted, the shaft had just fractured! so he has assured me that it was just the excess boost etc that caused this..

 

Anyway, we decided that we should stick in a big single blower rather than repair the damaged one, so thats whats being done at the minute.... cant wait to get it back :)

Its the shock on the turbo from combustion in the exhaust housing which causes premature failure not the heat.

How fast does the anti-lag kill a turbo, i know there is no exact time, but of you had to guess ?

And if the goal is to get off the line well, you can always use the boost/speed feature on the AEM to get some finetuning done for going down the track :)

sorry, perhaps this is what he has told me, basically its set up not to be damaging to the turbos...:search:

 

Also have the launch control feature set up, the anti lag is really for a bit of noisy fun, and to keep boost between shifts as far as i understand it...

The AEM has 3 methods for this :-

 

* 2step rev limiter

* Drag style launch control

* Rally style antilag

 

The rally style antilag is like you say for keeping the turbo spooled between gear changes, the other two can be used together but they all work in the same way and therefore are all just as damaging.
