Max Headroom
Need help with some wiring please, took off an old junction box and trying to rewire to another cable, If you look at the diagram I have wired it as shown, except cable 3 at the bottom has 2 red wires as oppossed to black and red. I cannot get the light to work in the room. If I swapped round cable 3 then the lights don't work in the kitchen next door but work in the room. What have I done wrong? Bob
Have you tried wiring both red to the live? It's doubtful that one of them would be an earth.
chilli
I could help you (easy stuff) but you've not clearly explained what each wire does (where it goes) i.e. which ones go to switches, which one supplies power. I could guess, but it would be safer for you to describe them better first...
how_supra
my dad says Not enough information Has he marked to colours correctly, I would expect to see a green cable. Do I assume that the single cable is the live feed How many lights and how many switches
Bob
Go on, both reds to live. Chicken What's the worst that could happen? A blown bulb or fuse? :edit: Actually, it makes sense. It'll be a 2 gang system with common earth, so both red SHOULD be wired to the live, hence why one light works or not when they are switched around. Max Headroom
Thank you guys for all the info, what i did was wet the ends of my fingers and held onto each wire while my wife tripped the fuse. If I yelled she turned off the power and we went from there....... No what I really did was the cable with the two red wires was incorrectly wired, I put 1 red wire with the other red wires and the other to the live? wire. Lights work
