LeeT
cool goona put a heatshield over it but am very fussy lol I found heatshields to be absolute shite. The BL blanket made a world of difference with under bonnet temps

My cast manifold is heat coated and so much heat comes off it but the BL turbo blanket is great.

kosmic
How the hell do these blankets withstand the intense heat? what are they made of?
Kranz
How the hell do these blankets withstand the intense heat? what are they made of? Err aluminumised glass fibre or similar?? For a heat proof coating search for ceramic coating on google. Something like Yttrium Zirconia or Zirconium oxide would be best to resist the temperatures a turbo will see. colsoop
Am i wrong ? but i always thought heat coatings were used to allow a metal to work outside its normal range of temperature without altering its state - distorting or melting ? Kranz
Col.. I thought there were two types: Barrier coating that prevents the underlying metal from actually getting hot Substrate modifying coating that bonds/fuses with the metal and creates a thin composite layer that, as you say, makes the metal more resistant to heat etc.
colsoop
Your right, i was just having a read and it did mention different properties and coating types depending on what was required.
