Good Old Toyota

My cars been at toyota the past couple of days getting a service and a slight rattle sorted out, got a call today saying that one of the Axle stands has went through the sump!!!!! The cars had everything done but just can't go anywhere because of this.

They said that they take 100% of the blame (oviously!) and that they have ordered another part - a part that Toyota can't get till next monday :twak:

Anyway, does anyone know how much a new sump costs? Apparently it's made a big hole in it and it's lost all the oil that was put in! This could only happen to me.....just glad it's in the hands of Toyota to get fixed instead of another smaller garage who might of tried to disguise this.

ARSE!!!

I'm beginning to think that a FTSH is a bad thing!! Smaller independant garages seem to be more reliable than dealerships.

Unlucky.... good thing is that they have taken the blame..... though it wouldn't have suprised me if they tried to blame someone else.

Not too sure, shouldn't they have put the car on the ramps????

There ringing me back in 30 mins, anything i should ask them? They said it slipped and spun round and went through the sump!

They said there paying for it all, i just miss my car though :-(

Might ask for a car from them as i need one for work. Hope it's not a Kia though lol, thats what they mostly have as it's a Toyota/Kia garage

working for main dealers i have found the staff rushing to meet targets, also most of the pay will be bonus related, but saying this they do use the best parts and if something goes wrong they do usually deal with it in the way they should

It puts my mind at ease a bit knowing that this has happened with Toyota, if it was with a smaller garage i'd be a bit worried but being Toyota i guess they'll get the parts, fit them properly and if theres anything wrong still, i can drop it back off to them and know they won't tell me to get lost like other garages might do.

Well i hope so anyway lol

Got my courtesy car........wait for it........it's a.........

KIA RIO ESTATE hahahahaha what a pile, i was honestly ashamed to be seen driving home in this thing! Sorry if anyone on here has got one!

Apparently they reckon the part will be here at the start of march, and Toyota have said March, but hopefully at the beginning of March! Thing is, the part has to come from Tokyo!! so i reckon i'll be stuck with this heap of crap for about 4-6 weeks!

Oh the stress haha :p

Gaz, finally i can come up and give you your cash, now that i have a car, if you can call it that! lol

Could do, but the more they break it the more parts they replace!!! lol

I'd love a new engine, fitted from Toyota. Don't think it would work like that though.

Went down there tonight and my baby was in the back car park! Told them to put it inside and they said it will be getting pushed in before they go home!

Might have a check tonight......

Make sure they check for any mechanical damage to the bottom end while the old sump is off. If the whole weight of the car has come slamming down on the oilpump or a bearing cap or something then it could cause major problems either immediately or further down the line.

Paul,

Have a think about this.

They've either done one of two things:

a. Had your car on a ramp and lowered it onto the axle stand (unlikely)

b. had your car supported on the axle stand and the car has rolled off the stand and the stand has toppled as the car has gone. (Sounds most likely)

How the hell else could you punch an axle stand through the sump. I know it's only sheet ally, but if you simply dropped a stand onto it (Would have to drop it upwards, unless they flipped your car upside down to fill it with oil through the drain plug), it would only dent it.

Find out exactly what they did. I mean a second by second detailed explanation.

If the car has dropped from that kinda height, there may well be suspension damage.

Also if the sump has been punctured, what stopped the axle stand? The block? The crank? Conrods? The in-sump oil pickup/filter? Have them remove the current sump and inspect the damage.

Would hate to see you done over on this

Hope it is resolved quickly

Regards

They've admitted it's there fault, ask for a car of equal, or better spec. They might have a problem finding something as fast, but it's worth a try.

If they get funny just start talking about lawyers and compensation. :D It might even be worth getting an independant inspection, just to check for hidden damage.

Hope it all get sorted for the best.

Ive never done one myself but i believe the engine has to be lifted up to get the sump off so its a good job the garage doing it know their stuff !!!! not , i would be kicking up a serious ruck if i was waiting 6-8 weeks with my car being pushed in and out everyday , if i was you id phone leon at JPS and see if hes got a secondhand sump you can have in return for the new one when it arrives .Or get em to take it off and get someone like Nick (NWS) to weld it up , anything but letting them push the car around everyday .

But they just buggered your car. I would not trust a Toyota garage to change my wiper blades.

What does it take to show people they are handing over their cat to muppets at a main dealer.

This is unbelievable, as said above I would be demanding an inspection, I would want to see the damage and to be told exactly what happened. I would want to know that the hole was covered as soon as the oil was drained as with all the wind around today I am sure half the contents of their car park will now be in the bottom of your engine. If the existing sump is still in place I would want to witness it being remove to inspect for further damage.

It has all been said, I just can see how this could happen in a so called professional operation.

I am sure you could get hold of a SH sump as a temp measure.

Just thinking about the way the hole was made. With an axle stand?

I dont work in a garage, or know alot about them but i've never seen axle stands in a big main dealer. Dont they have ramps? I though axle stands genrally were for DIYers. I cant imagine that they would jack up all 4 corners, then put the car on stands, then still have to crawl underneath to do any fluid changes. Just seems strange. Also why would the stand be anywhere near the sump? I would assume this is not a toyota approved jacking point.

It does sound a little strange. Check out the damage make sure it's not been holed comming together with something else.

If i were in your shoes i'd have alot of questions.
