bens747
These humps are killing my rear end, the car not me ass, and now got a knocking from the ass end. Before I look, just wondered if you guys might have an idea to what it might be .... Thanks
how_supra
If that was my car the first thing I'd check is to see if the droplinks were missing. Does it happen when you go over bumps or all the time?
bens747
Yep .... pretty much knocks all the time, really starting to piss me off now lmao
Swampy442
Wishbone bushes? Anti roll bar bush?
how_supra
Okay, I'm no suspension expert, but this is what I would do [since my FTO is plagued with knocks and rattles ] I'd jack the car up with the wheel on, grasp wheel at 3:45 and shake from side to side and see if there is any movement other than steering moving then grip wheel at 12 and 6 oclock and repeat. Now from my understanding if you get movement on the 3:45 shake you have a worn track rod end or possible wheel bearing [although my worn wheel bearing actually whirls not knocks] On the later, its either the bottom ball joint or a frame bushes. Failing that try grabing your Anti roll bars and seeing if you can move it from side to side. [worn ARB Bushes].......... Someone else is most likely to come along and correct me, but this is what I would do [and need to do infact as I have a knocking noise coming from my front drivers side]. BASHTHEBISHOP
I'd jack the car up with the wheel on, grasp wheel at 3:45 and shake from side to side and see if there is any movement other than steering moving then grip wheel at 12 and 6 oclock and repeat. Sounds like alot of time involved there:p Good advice though;)
how_supra
Sounds like alot of time involved there:p Good advice though;) I should practice what I preach I think. [except for I'm stupid and can't operate my jack for some random reason]
Homer
just wondered if you guys might have an idea to what it might be .... too many J-turns? Good advice there from Sabrina. Are you getting a knocking over bumps or is it all the time? I'd suggest checking the obvious things first: Drop links & sub frame bolt torque. Next look towards dampers. Jspec Germany
Which ones are the drop links? Pics? How do you know if they're worn? I'm going through the car right now trying to locate all the issues and I know my suspension is worn. My rear end shimmies from side to side when tracking straight. Not sure where to start with the different arms/links, but I've already torqued the subframe bolts.
Lucifer
9/10 its the struts on the rear.
how_supra
Drop links on the FTO look like the attached. Dunno about the supra though The way to check droplinks so I am told is to get hold of it, and see if it moves freely [ie without resistance]

bens747
Guys, thanks for all the info, will certainly give my rear end a prod and a poke with a large non descript implement ..... sounds painful I know, it's just one of the many things I need to sort out this summer before the cold snap appears again ......... Jspec Germany
9/10 its the struts on the rear. Is this for the knocking noise or my shimmie problem? Any ideas? I'm betting my shocks are badly worn. They're the stock Bilsteins. Thanks in advance. Sorry for the hijack.
